Start by checking Settings > Storage to see what is using space. Then review downloads, clear an app’s cache—not its storage or data—and move photos or files only after confirming a usable backup or copy. Menu names and available features vary by phone model and Android version, so use your phone’s own labels or search Settings for “Storage.”
Check what is taking up space before deleting anything
Open Settings > Storage, or search Settings for “Storage” if the menu is different. Review the categories shown, such as apps, images and video, or downloads, and start with the category using the most space. Android’s storage guidance describes this general approach, but the exact screens can vary by device and version: Google’s Android storage instructions.
Do not delete a category called “Other” or “System” just because it looks large. The label may not tell you which individual files or app data are involved. Open a category or app to see what can be reviewed safely.
Clear an app’s cache, not its data
If one app is using a lot of space, open that app’s information page in Settings and look for its storage options. Depending on the phone, the path may resemble Settings > Apps > [app name] > Storage; labels can differ.

- Clear cache: Removes temporary files. The app may take longer to load the next time while it rebuilds them.
- Clear storage or Clear data: Resets or removes the app’s local data. You may lose downloaded content, settings, or information that has not synced or been backed up.
Choose the cache option only when that is the action you intend. Before clearing storage or data, check the app itself for sync or backup status and confirm what the reset will remove. Google distinguishes these actions in its Android storage guidance.
Review downloads and large files individually
Open the Downloads folder or a built-in file manager and inspect files before removing them. Delete only items you recognize and no longer need, such as a duplicate or an installer you can replace. A cleanup suggestion, moving a file to trash, or tapping Delete is still a deletion—not a backup.

- Note: Make sure your smartphone is equipped with OTG function and need to open OTG function in Settings when you plug memory stick, then you can transfer easily data bewteen different devices
If a file matters, copy it to another destination before deleting the phone copy. Google documents transferring files from Android to a computer with a USB cable in its file-transfer instructions. After copying, open the destination copy to make sure it is readable before removing the original.

For photos or videos, first confirm that the backup finished in the account or service you plan to use. Check the intended account and verify the images are available there; an item that is merely selected for backup may not have uploaded yet. Google explains that backed-up Photos copies can be removed from a device, but access to cloud copies depends on the account and an internet connection: Google Photos’ device-space instructions.

Do not assume every app or file type is covered by a phone backup. Android backup and restore behavior differs by device and version, and some apps do not restore all their settings or data. Google’s Android backup guide also lists 15 GB of no-charge Google Account storage; this is account storage, not extra space on the phone, and the allowance can change, so check the current account terms before relying on it.
Use a microSD card only if your exact phone supports it
A supported microSD card can provide another place to store files, but card compatibility and supported uses depend on the phone. Infinix and itel support pages describe storage or backup options for some devices; they do not establish that every model accepts a card or that every app can be moved to one. Check the manual or support information for your exact model before buying or moving anything: Infinix support FAQs and itel support FAQs.

Keep a separate copy of anything important before formatting a card. Formatting erases the card’s contents, according to itel’s support guidance. A card holding the only copy of a file is extra storage, not a backup.

A factory reset is not a safe first step for freeing space: it can erase personal files and app data. Infinix’s support guidance pairs reset advice with a reminder to back up important files, and itel warns that erasing internal storage removes personal files. If you are troubleshooting a serious problem and decide a reset is necessary, first verify separate copies of the files and the data you need to restore. See the relevant Infinix FAQs or itel FAQs.

Use this safety check before deleting a file
- Do you recognize the file or know what the app data contains?
- Is it replaceable, or is there a confirmed second copy?
- If copied or backed up, have you checked that the copy opens or the backup is available in the intended account?
- Could deleting it remove local app data, offline access, or content that has not synced?
If you cannot answer these questions, leave the item in place until you can identify it or verify another copy. There is no single guaranteed amount of space these actions will recover; it depends on what is stored on your phone.
