To remove a saved Bluetooth pairing on your iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth, tap the accessory’s Info button, choose Forget This Device, then confirm with Forget Device. You can pair the accessory again later.
Forget a Bluetooth device on iPhone
- Open Settings and tap Bluetooth.
- Find the accessory in the device list and tap its Info button.
- Tap Forget This Device.
- Tap Forget Device to confirm.
If the device list is not visible, check that Bluetooth is turned on. Apple documents this process in its iPhone Bluetooth guide.
What happens when you forget a device?
Forgetting removes the accessory’s saved pairing from the iPhone’s available Bluetooth-device list. To use it with the iPhone again, you must pair it again. Apple notes a specific account-related effect for AirPods: unpairing them also unpairs them from other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. That statement applies to AirPods; it does not establish that every Bluetooth accessory shares pairing changes across an account.

Forget the device or temporarily disconnect it?
| Action | What changes | To reconnect |

Use Forget This Device to remove an old pairing or start over with a connection. If you only want a short interruption, use the Bluetooth control in Control Center instead. Apple describes the temporary-disconnect behavior in its Bluetooth accessory guidance.

Pair the accessory again
- Put the accessory into discovery or pairing mode, following the accessory maker’s instructions.
- On iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- Tap the accessory when it appears in the list. If prompted for a PIN or passcode, check the accessory’s instructions.
Apple says the iPhone must be within about 33 feet (10 meters) of the Bluetooth accessory to pair. See Apple’s pairing instructions.
If the accessory still will not connect
Try these checks in order:
- Keep the iPhone and accessory close together.
- Turn the accessory off and back on, and confirm it is powered and charged. Replace depleted batteries if needed.
- If the accessory relies on a companion app, check its Bluetooth permission at Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth.
- If it was previously paired, forget it, put it back into discovery mode, and try pairing again.
- If it pairs with other devices but not the iPhone, unpair it from those devices and retry.
- Ask the accessory maker to confirm that the accessory is compatible with iPhone.
Apple recommends contacting Apple Support if Bluetooth cannot be turned on or its control is greyed out, if no Bluetooth accessories connect, or if the manufacturer has confirmed the accessory works correctly. Apple’s Bluetooth connection troubleshooting guide covers these steps.
