Godlike.Host offers hosted ARK: Survival Evolved servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Run SteamCMD’s update command with the validate argument, using the dedicated-server app ID—not the game client ID. For ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE), the documented command is app_update 376030 validate. ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) uses a separate dedicated-server app, reported as ID 2430930, so its command uses that ID instead. Stop the server first, run the command in SteamCMD, wait for it to finish, and then start the server again.
First identify which ARK server you run
Validation only works against the app whose files are installed. ARK has separate client and dedicated-server applications, and ASE and ASA are separate products. Using a valid Steam app ID for the wrong product can leave the actual server untouched while SteamCMD appears to complete normally.

|---|---|---|---|
| ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE) | 376030 |
346110 |
376030 is the ID used by the ARK Official Community Wiki dedicated-server instructions. Do not substitute the client ID. |
| ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) | 2430930 (reported) |
2399830 |
The separate server ID is reported by a hosting setup guide and should be checked against the current Steam listing before use. The evidence is less authoritative than the ASE documentation. |
Older forum posts and an archived fan wiki often show 346110. That is the ASE game client, not the ASE dedicated server. If your server manager or installation guide gives you a different number, confirm whether it identifies the dedicated-server depot before running validation.
What validation does—and what it does not do
SteamCMD’s validate argument tells the app_update operation to check the installed files for the selected app and reacquire files that do not match Steam’s current data. It is a file-integrity and update operation; it is not a save reset, configuration migration, mod repair, or guaranteed solution for every version problem.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The argument must be attached to the same update operation as the app ID. Running an update for one app and then validating another, or validating the client instead of the server, does not repair the dedicated-server installation. Validation also does not prove that the process you later launch is using that installation directory; a host can have more than one copy of the server files.
Before you run a one-off validation
- Stop the ARK server process. A running process can keep files open while SteamCMD is replacing them. Wait until the process and any wrapper or service that restarts it have stopped.
- Back up saves and configuration. Validation is intended to replace program files, but a current backup gives you a recovery point if you select the wrong installation or discover that a server manager points somewhere else.
- Record the installation directory. SteamCMD must update the directory that your start script, service, or host panel actually launches. If you have several SteamCMD libraries, note the full path before beginning.
- Check free space and permissions. SteamCMD needs to write replacement files and its manifest. Run it under the account that owns the server installation, or use the permissions model required by your host.
- Plan a maintenance window. A validation can download files and should not be interrupted. Keep players out until the operation and a test launch have completed.

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 376030 validate +quit
The exact location of the SteamCMD executable and the destination library are installation-specific. If SteamCMD is configured to use a particular install directory, select that directory before issuing app_update; otherwise, you may validate a different copy from the one your service launches.
- Stop the ASE server and its automatic restart wrapper.
- Open SteamCMD in the account and installation context used for the server.
- Log in with the method supported by your installation. Anonymous login is commonly used for dedicated-server downloads, but follow the authentication requirement shown by SteamCMD if it differs.
- Run
app_update 376030 validate. - Let SteamCMD reach a completion message. Do not close the window merely because downloading appears idle; SteamCMD may still be checking local files.
- Exit SteamCMD, start the server with the same directory you recorded, and inspect the startup output for the expected server build.
For an existing installation, validation may report that files are already up to date. That result means SteamCMD found no differences for app 376030 in the directory it operated on; it does not establish that another copy, a mod, or a launcher is current.
Force validation on an ASA dedicated server
ASA’s dedicated server is separate from the client. A hosting setup guide reports dedicated-server app ID 2430930, while the client is listed as 2399830. Because the server-ID evidence is less authoritative, verify the current dedicated-server app listing before committing a production installation to that number.

If 2430930 is confirmed for your installation, use the same SteamCMD pattern:
app_update 2430930 validate
From a shell, the corresponding form is:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2430930 validate +quit
- Stop the ASA server and any panel or service that can restart it.
- Confirm that the SteamCMD install directory is the one used by the ASA launch command.
- Check the current dedicated-server app ID; do not silently replace it with client ID
2399830. - Run the update with
validateand wait for completion. - Restart the server and compare its reported build with the client version you intend to support.
Reports about ASA hosting on Linux are inconsistent. One guide says there is no native Linux build and that hosts use the Windows binary through Proton or Wine, but that claim was not confirmed by an official source. Treat platform-specific instructions as environment-dependent and verify them before changing a working installation.
How to tell whether validation affected the server you use
SteamCMD validates the files in its own working library. Confirm that this is the same location your server process launches rather than assuming a successful command changed the live instance.

- Check the launch path. Compare the directory in your service, batch file, panel, or container definition with the SteamCMD library selected for the update.
- Read the SteamCMD result. A completed update may show downloads, file checks, or an up-to-date result. Save the console output for troubleshooting.
- Start once in a controlled window. Watch the server log for its build and for file-loading errors before allowing players back in.
- Compare client and server builds. If clients are receiving a newer update, a server that still reports the previous build is not ready, even if SteamCMD said the selected app was current.
- Check the process owner and command line. A second service, panel instance, or old screen/tmux session may be launching another copy.
When the server is still on an old version
Community discussions describe servers that remain on an older version after validation. A December 2024 Steam discussion reports this behavior for ASA, and an older ASE discussion describes SteamCMD lag; one participant said forced validation through a server manager resolved that case. These are user reports, not an official diagnosis or a guaranteed remedy.
Recommended Free Tools
Work through the checks below in order. They distinguish an incorrect command from a correct validation that was applied to the wrong files or could not obtain the newest depot.
| Symptom | What to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| SteamCMD completes immediately and the live server is unchanged | App ID and installation path | Use 376030 for ASE or the currently confirmed ASA server ID; then verify that the launch command points to the same library. |
| Clients report a newer build, but SteamCMD says “up to date” | Whether the operation ran against a client app or a second server copy | Repeat the operation with the dedicated-server ID and inspect the service’s actual executable path. |
| Files download, but the old build starts again | Automatic restart tools, duplicate installations, or a cached panel configuration | Stop every wrapper, start the server manually from the validated directory once, and then correct the wrapper’s path. |
| Validation stops with an error | Disk space, write permissions, network access, and the SteamCMD console output | Resolve the reported environmental error, then run the same app-update command again. Do not switch to the client ID as a workaround. |
| ASA remains old after a successful-looking run | The reported ASA server app ID and the date of the depot update | Confirm the dedicated-server listing and consult the relevant Steam community discussion; no universally verified fix is established. |
Do not treat “validate” as a version-force switch
Validation checks against the depot available to the selected app. If Steam’s server depot itself has not received a new build, or if a host is pinned to a branch or mirror, validation cannot manufacture that update. The command also cannot update a process that is running from another directory.

Use community reports carefully
The Steam discussions about ASE update lag and ASA staying on an old version are useful for recognizing a pattern, but they do not establish a common root cause. Treat a reported fix as a lead to test in your own environment, not as a promise that a particular server manager, restart sequence, or cache deletion will work.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.One-off repair versus recurring validation
A one-off validation is appropriate after an interrupted download, suspected file damage, or a confirmed mismatch between the installed server and the current depot. Community guides also describe scripts that combine updating and validation on a schedule. Automation can reduce manual maintenance, but it introduces its own failure modes.
Design a recurring job safely
- Use the dedicated-server app ID for the exact game edition.
- Run only when the server is stopped, or have the job request a clean shutdown and verify that the process has exited.
- Keep the SteamCMD install directory identical to the directory used by the launcher.
- Log SteamCMD output and the date of each run so you can distinguish a real update from an “already current” check.
- Start the server only after SteamCMD exits successfully; avoid overlapping update jobs.
- Schedule the job during a maintenance window and notify players of possible downtime.
- Retain save and configuration backups independently of the update job.
Do not add validate to every start simply because a server once had damaged files. A hosting guide recommends validation for an initial installation or suspected damage, but that recommendation was not verified against an official Valve or Wildcard statement. Choose a recurring schedule only when its downtime and download cost are acceptable for your community.
Why Steam client “Verify integrity” is not a confirmed substitute
The Steam client’s “Verify integrity of game files” action is designed around a client installation. A dedicated server is distributed as a separate Steam app, so the client procedure is not confirmed as a repair method for a dedicated-server directory. Use SteamCMD with the dedicated-server app ID unless the documentation for your specific host explicitly maps the client verification action to that server app.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using
346110for an ASE server. That number identifies the ASE client; the dedicated server uses376030. - Using
2399830for an ASA server. That is the reported ASA client ID, not the separate reported server app. - Leaving the server running. SteamCMD may be unable to replace locked files, and the running process will continue to report its old build.
- Validating the wrong SteamCMD library. A successful command in a test directory does not update the production instance.
- Closing SteamCMD before completion. The visible download phase is not proof that file checks have finished.
- Assuming validation fixes every old-version report. Community reports show that some servers remain old even after validation.
- Mixing ASE and ASA instructions. Their app IDs and server files are not interchangeable.
- Deleting saves to solve a program-file problem. Validation is intended for installed app files; save deletion is a separate, destructive action.
Practical decision checklist
- Is the installation ASE or ASA?
- Are you using the dedicated-server app ID rather than the client ID?
- Did you stop the server and all automatic restart tools?
- Does SteamCMD target the directory that the live launcher uses?
- Did you run
app_update <server-app-id> validateand wait for completion? - Does the restarted process report the expected build?
- If it remains old, have you recorded the SteamCMD output and checked for a duplicate installation or wrapper?
- For ASA, have you confirmed that the reported server app ID is still current?
For ASE, the dependable starting point is app_update 376030 validate. For ASA, use the separately listed dedicated-server app only after confirming its current ID; the commonly reported value is 2430930. In both cases, app-ID accuracy and directory accuracy matter as much as the validate word itself.
