Windows 11 has an optional End task command in an app’s taskbar right-click menu. To turn it on, go to Settings > System > For developers, enable the End task capability, then right-click an app on the taskbar and select End task. It is a menu shortcut—not a keyboard shortcut.
What the End task option does
When enabled, the option adds End task to the context menu for an app on the taskbar. Microsoft documented the feature in its November 14, 2023 update notes for KB5032190, which list Windows 11 builds 22621.2715 and 22631.2715. Microsoft describes the action simply: “You can now right-click an app on the taskbar and end the task.” Microsoft’s KB5032190 update documentation identifies both the setting location and the taskbar action.
How to enable End task on the taskbar

Open Settings.

Select System, then For developers.

Turn on the setting that enables End task on the taskbar. The documented page location is consistent in Microsoft’s update notes, but the reviewed documentation does not establish the exact toggle wording for every Windows 11 build.

Right-click the target app’s icon on the taskbar and select End task.

Is it a keyboard shortcut?
No keyboard combination is documented for this feature. “Shortcut” here means a quicker route through the taskbar’s right-click menu: enable the setting once, then choose End task from an app’s taskbar context menu when needed.
What to know before using it

Microsoft’s November 2023 release record documents the feature and names builds 22621.2715 and 22631.2715; that historical record does not establish availability across every current Windows 11 edition, servicing channel, or organization-managed PC.

Menu labels and availability may vary by Windows release or device management. If you do not see the setting at Settings > System > For developers, the reviewed Microsoft documentation does not provide a compatibility matrix or a separate fix.

The reviewed Microsoft sources do not specify how the command handles unsaved work, whether every background process is terminated, which apps may omit the command, or whether its behavior is identical to Task Manager’s End task action. Save work when possible, and do not assume the command will preserve unsaved changes.
