For official NHL scores and game updates on your phone, use the NHL app’s GameCenter or open NHL.com in your mobile browser. Use the NHL schedule to find upcoming games and past results, then open a game’s box score or a player’s statistics page to check goalie performance. Turn on alerts if you want updates without repeatedly checking the app.
Choose the right NHL source for your phone
| Option | Best for | What it offers |
|---|---|---|
| NHL app | Following the league and checking a live game | GameCenter scores, play-by-play, highlights and stories, plus player pages with Last Game/Next Game and EDGE Advanced Stats, according to the NHL’s app feature page. |
| NHL.com in a phone browser | Finding games by date or checking completed results | The schedule links listed games to GameCenter. Dated schedule pages show matchups and results; some completed listings include the winning goalie. |
| An official team app | Following one club closely | Features vary by team. The Sabres app lists box scores, player stats, shot charts, league-wide stats and calendar additions; the Avalanche app lists live box scores, play-by-play and player stats; the Leafs app advertises score alerts and updating player stats. See each club’s app page for its current features: Buffalo Sabres, Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs. |
For league-wide coverage, start with the NHL app. Choose a team app when team-focused schedules and alerts suit you better. If you prefer not to install an app, NHL.com provides a browser-based schedule and links to game coverage.
Follow a live game or find an upcoming one
- Open the NHL app or NHL.com. In the app, choose a favorite team if you want team-focused personalization. In a browser, go to the NHL schedule.
- For a game in progress, open GameCenter. Check the score, period and game clock, then use play-by-play or the box score for more detail. The NHL describes GameCenter as providing up-to-the-minute scores, play-by-play and in-game highlights and stories.
- For a future game, check the schedule date and time zone. Game listings can change as the season progresses, so use the current schedule rather than relying on a saved slate. Open a listing’s GameCenter link for its game page.
- For a completed game, open its result and box score. Dated schedule listings can include outcomes and winning-goalie details, while the box score provides the game-level statistics view.
Find goalie performance in a game or player view
Open the game’s box score to inspect the goalie’s performance in that matchup, or open the player’s statistics page to see the player-oriented view. Confirm the selected game, season and goalie before interpreting a number. The NHL app’s player pages also advertise Last Game/Next Game and EDGE Advanced Stats, but the NHL’s feature description does not establish a stable, exhaustive list of goalie fields across every screen or version. Check the labels shown in the current view rather than assuming every page presents the same statistics.
Turn on score and game alerts
Alerts can tell you about a game without requiring you to reopen the app. The NHL FAQ lists game-start, goal and period-summary alert types. In the app, open its notification or alert settings, choose the team or game updates you want, and allow notifications in your phone’s system settings if prompted. Exact labels and behavior can vary by platform and app version.

The NHL’s current app feature page advertises live lock-screen updates for Android users and says NHL App v17.0 or later is required for the listed new features. It does not establish identical lock-screen support on every phone platform; check the feature page and your installed app version for current availability.

GameCenter and score alerts help you follow events, but they do not guarantee access to a live video broadcast. For viewing options, check the NHL’s current How to Watch information and local broadcast details for your location. The NHL FAQ describes live out-of-market games as subject to blackouts and other restrictions, and streaming products and terms can change. Confirm current availability and restrictions before relying on a service.
