Start by identifying when Watch Dogs 2 fails. A game that never opens needs a different path from one that reaches the menu and then crashes, while low or changing frame rates are a performance problem rather than automatically a launch problem. Ubisoft’s PC guidance specifically covers crashes and low FPS, requires Ubisoft Connect and a Ubisoft account, and warns that Watch Dogs 2 cannot launch when Easy Anti-Cheat has been removed. Use the matching steps below, then open a Ubisoft support case with DxDiag and MSInfo reports if the problem remains.
Use the symptom to choose the right fix
Do not apply every possible remedy at once. First note the exact stage at which the failure occurs and any message on screen. That observation determines which Ubisoft instructions apply.

A multiplayer or connection error should not be treated as proof that the game installation or graphics hardware is broken. Conversely, an offline crash should not be routed through a connectivity article simply because it happened while you were trying to enter an online session.

Supported Windows editions listed by Ubisoft
Ubisoft’s current US product page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 for the PC version. It also lists a Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect as requirements. You need the launcher installed and must be signed in to the account that owns the game before launch troubleshooting can be meaningful.

The official Watch Dogs 2 material reviewed here does not provide a numeric minimum or recommended CPU, GPU, memory, or storage table. Do not substitute specifications from the first Watch Dogs game; a system-requirements result for that title is not a Watch Dogs 2 requirement. If you need to assess hardware suitability, use the requirements shown for your edition and region in Ubisoft’s current product and support pages.
Easy Anti-Cheat is part of the launch path
Ubisoft states that Easy Anti-Cheat is installed with Watch Dogs 2 and is needed for the game to launch. A missing EAC installation can therefore produce a launch failure even when the rest of the game files are present. That is a dependency check, not a diagnosis of every crash.
Fix a game that will not launch
1. Check Ubisoft Connect and the account first
- Open Ubisoft Connect and confirm that it is installed rather than relying on a shortcut whose target may have changed.
- Sign in with the Ubisoft account that owns Watch Dogs 2. If several accounts are used on the PC, verify the account shown in the launcher before pressing Play.
- Record any message displayed by Ubisoft Connect or Windows. The exact wording is more useful to support than a description such as “it does nothing.”
These checks satisfy the platform requirements listed on Ubisoft’s PC product page. They do not repair a missing EAC service, so continue to the next section if the message mentions Easy Anti-Cheat or the game still refuses to open.

Ubisoft’s support listing specifically addresses the message “Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed.” It says the problem can occur after a Public Test Server for a game was uninstalled and the main game is then launched. That is one documented scenario, not a claim that every launch failure has the same cause.
- Open the folder where Watch Dogs 2 is installed.
- Open the subfolder named
EasyAntiCheat. - Run
EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe. - After the setup process finishes, try launching Watch Dogs 2 from Ubisoft Connect again.
Ubisoft’s listing gives this default Ubisoft games root: C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launchergames. The actual Watch Dogs 2 directory can be elsewhere if a different library or drive was selected during installation. Use the location shown by your Ubisoft Connect installation rather than creating a second copy of the folder.

If running the setup executable does not resolve the missing-EAC message, follow Ubisoft’s general Easy Anti-Cheat troubleshooting guide or open a support case. Avoid deleting unrelated folders while trying to repair the service; the documented sequence is to open the existing game directory and run the setup program.
3. Separate a launch failure from a crash immediately after launch
If a window appears and then closes, note whether Ubisoft Connect remains open, whether a crash dialog appears, and whether the failure occurs before or after the game reaches its menus. A missing EAC installation is relevant when the launch dependency is absent; it is not evidence that EAC caused a later in-game crash.
Handle crashes after the game opens
What Ubisoft’s game-specific article actually directs you to do
Ubisoft’s Troubleshooting technical issues in Watch Dogs 2 article explicitly names low frames per second and crashes as PC technical problems. For those issues it directs players to Ubisoft’s general troubleshooting guide. The Watch Dogs 2 article does not, in the material available here, publish a game-specific sequence of driver updates, file verification, clean-boot steps, administrator settings, compatibility modes, or overlay changes. Do not treat any one of those actions as an official Watch Dogs 2 fix unless Ubisoft’s current guide tells you to use it.
Record the crash pattern before changing anything
- Crash before the main menu: note whether Ubisoft Connect shows an error and whether EAC is installed.
- Crash while loading a save: record the mission or save involved and whether a new game reaches the same point.
- Crash after a period of play: write down the approximate elapsed time and whether the failure follows a repeatable action.
- Freeze or forced close: distinguish a frozen image, a Windows “not responding” state, and an immediate desktop return.
- Change-related crash: mention any recent Windows, launcher, game, driver, peripheral, or hardware change when contacting support.
This log prevents two common mistakes: calling every failure an EAC problem and changing several variables before you know which one mattered. It also gives support a reproducible starting point.
Use the general technical guide instead of guessing
Open Ubisoft Help’s general technical-troubleshooting route from the Watch Dogs 2 support article and follow the instructions that match your symptom. The general guide is the authoritative place for any current steps that Ubisoft may change over time. If those steps do not stop the crash, escalate with the diagnostic reports described below rather than buying hardware based only on a crash.

Fix low, unstable, or stuttering FPS
Understand what the symptom means
Ubisoft’s general frame-rate article explains that lower or frequently changing FPS can make gameplay appear slow or stutter. “Low FPS” and “unstable FPS” are related but not identical: a consistently low result points to insufficient rendering capacity or settings, while large swings can feel uneven even when the peak number is high. The article’s example of 60 FPS is an industry-standard reference, not a Watch Dogs 2 benchmark or a guaranteed target for your PC.
Compare the PC with the correct requirements
- Use the Watch Dogs 2 requirements for your PC edition and region; do not use a table for the original Watch Dogs.
- Check whether the computer meets at least the published minimum requirements.
- If it does not meet them, a software change cannot make the machine satisfy that baseline. If it does meet them and FPS remains poor, continue with Ubisoft’s graphical-issues troubleshooting guide.
No official Watch Dogs 2 performance statistic or benchmark is established in the cited Ubisoft pages. As a result, this guide cannot promise a particular FPS number for a given processor or graphics card.
Measure the problem consistently
For a useful comparison, test the same location or activity for the same amount of time and note whether the problem is a steady slowdown, periodic hitching, or a sudden drop during a repeatable event. Change only one in-game graphics option at a time if you are testing settings, and write down the original value so you can reverse the change. This controlled approach helps you tell a settings-related change from a coincidence; it is a testing method, not a Ubisoft performance guarantee.
Know when FPS is not the real problem
If the game is smooth in offline play but online sessions disconnect or fail to load, route the issue to Ubisoft’s connectivity support instead of treating it as a frame-rate fault. If the image freezes and the program closes, classify it as a crash even if an FPS counter was visible immediately beforehand.
Connectivity problems need a separate route
Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2 connectivity support listing separates connection troubleshooting from PC launch and performance troubleshooting. Use that route for sign-in, matchmaking, session, or other network-specific messages. Keep the exact error text and the point at which the connection fails. A connectivity article may require different information from a crash report, so do not omit the network symptom when opening a case.

When the same computer also has local crashes or low FPS, describe the symptoms separately: for example, “the game returns to the desktop in offline mode” and “online matchmaking reports a connection error.” Combining them into one vague report makes it harder to identify which support path applies.
Prepare a Ubisoft support case that can be acted on
Attach the reports Ubisoft requests
If the Watch Dogs 2 PC problem persists, Ubisoft’s game-specific article asks players to contact support and attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports. These files give support a structured view of Windows, hardware, drivers, and recorded system information without requiring you to guess which component matters.
- Press Windows+R, enter
dxdiag, and press Enter. - Allow the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to finish collecting information, then choose Save All Information and save the text report somewhere you can find.
- Press Windows+R again, enter
msinfo32, and press Enter. - In System Information, use the File menu’s save or export command to create the MSInfo report.
- Attach both files to the Ubisoft support case. If the support form imposes an upload limit, follow its instructions for compressing or supplying the files rather than omitting them.
Include a concise reproduction summary
- The exact Watch Dogs 2 edition and where it is installed.
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 and the Ubisoft Connect account status.
- The full error text, including whether it says “Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed.”
- Whether the game never opens, crashes at a particular point, or runs with low or changing FPS.
- Whether the issue affects offline play, online play, or both.
- When the issue began and any software, driver, peripheral, or hardware change that preceded it.
- The steps already attempted, including whether
EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exewas run.
The reports are the requested Ubisoft attachments; the surrounding details are practical context that lets an agent connect the files to a reproducible symptom. Do not replace them with a screenshot of a single FPS reading or a list of hardware purchases.

Using requirements for the wrong game
A system-requirements page for the original Watch Dogs is not evidence of Watch Dogs 2 requirements. Using it can make a PC appear to pass or fail a baseline incorrectly. Check the current Watch Dogs 2 product information instead.

EAC is a documented launch dependency, and Ubisoft provides a repair path for the missing-installation message. It does not follow that EAC caused a crash after the menu, a low-FPS session, or a network error. Match the remedy to the stage and message.

Buying hardware before collecting evidence
The official guidance routes persistent crashes and low FPS to technical troubleshooting and, if necessary, support diagnostics. It does not connect a particular RAM kit, graphics card, SSD, or other purchase to an unspecified Watch Dogs 2 problem. Gather the reports and compare the correct requirements before spending money.
Chasing an unofficial FPS target
Ubisoft’s 60-FPS reference is not a game-specific result. Judge whether the game is smooth enough for your use and follow the requirements-first and graphical-troubleshooting routes rather than treating 60 as a promise.
Changing several things at once
Multiple simultaneous changes erase the evidence needed to identify a cause. Record the original state, make one controlled change, retest the same scenario, and document the result.
