If dialogue is hard to hear while music and sound effects are very loud, first try your Samsung soundbar’s Voice Enhance feature, if available. If speech is still buried, raise the Center channel level a little. Then check the TV’s sound settings and, if the problem happens across multiple sources, verify the TV-to-soundbar output and connection. Menu names and available controls vary by model.
1. Turn on Voice Enhance if your soundbar supports it
Samsung identifies dialogue that sounds quieter than background music or effects as a use case for Voice Enhance. Samsung documents the feature for soundbars released in 2022 or later; availability and SmartThings labels can still vary by model and software. Samsung’s Voice Enhance instructions were last updated November 14, 2024.
- With the soundbar remote, press Sound Control repeatedly until “Voice Enhance” appears or is announced.
- Use the up or down control to enable it.
If you use SmartThings, open the soundbar card, go to Advanced Sound Settings, and enable Voice enhancement. If neither route offers the feature, check your soundbar’s manual rather than assuming the control is available on every model.

If speech remains difficult to hear, try a modest Center-channel increase and listen again before making another adjustment. Samsung says the Center channel typically handles most spoken content in movies and shows. On supported soundbars, its documented adjustment range is -6 dB to +6 dB; that range is not a guarantee that every model provides a Center control.

- On the remote, press CH LEVEL repeatedly until Center appears.
- Use the up or down control to raise the level slightly, then replay the same scene to judge the change.
In SmartThings, open the soundbar card, choose Channel Level, and move the Center slider. The exact options may differ by model or software. Samsung’s Voice Enhance support page covers both adjustment methods: Voice Enhance and soundbar channel-level instructions.
3. Check whether the problem follows one source
Try more than one app, TV channel, or connected device. If the imbalance appears only in one program or source, its audio mix or source settings may be contributing; that is a diagnostic clue, not a confirmed cause. If dialogue is consistently quiet across sources, move on to the TV’s sound settings and the connection checks below.

4. Review the TV’s sound settings
Samsung TV sound options depend on the TV model, selected sound output, and active sound processing. The TV e-manual describes Sound Mode choices and an Equaliser for adjusting high- and low-pitched sound, but equalizer use is restricted under some sound modes. A menu path that works on one TV may not exist on another. Consult your TV’s e-manual for the model-specific route. - Auto Volume is intended to keep sound at a certain level when changing channels or external inputs; it is not a dialogue enhancement control.
- Reset Sound restores changed TV sound settings. Use it only if you want to undo those changes.
5. Verify the TV-to-soundbar connection if the issue persists across sources
For an HDMI ARC/eARC setup, check the signal path and selected output before changing more sound settings. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking these items:

- The HDMI cable is fully seated in the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port and the soundbar’s HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port.
- HDMI-CEC is enabled on the TV.
- The TV’s selected Sound Output is the soundbar.
- For Samsung TVs, the soundbar source may need to be D.IN and display TV ARC.
- Depending on the TV model, HDMI-eARC Mode may need to be set to Auto.
See Samsung Canada’s soundbar troubleshooting steps. Samsung also advises using a certified HDMI cable and replacing one that is defective. A cable change is relevant when the cable or connection is suspect; it does not enhance dialogue by itself. Samsung Levant’s HDMI connection troubleshooting covers cable checks.
6. Reset only after checking model-specific instructions
If ARC is connected correctly but still fails, Samsung’s Levant HDMI guidance describes a reset procedure: turn off the TV and soundbar, then hold both volume buttons on the soundbar remote for more than five seconds until “INIT OK” appears. Treat this as a later troubleshooting step: a reset may clear settings, and the procedure can vary by model. Check the manual for your specific soundbar before using it.

If the soundbar has no output when tested with another TV, Samsung advises contacting support. For model-specific directions, have the TV and soundbar model numbers ready; regional support pages may use different button names or menu labels.

Why the controls differ by soundbar
Features depend on the exact model. Samsung’s guidance documents Voice Enhance for 2022-and-later soundbars, but does not establish that every older model has it. Likewise, do not assume every soundbar exposes a user-adjustable Center level. As one model-specific example, Samsung’s legacy HW-K650/ZA spec sheet lists a 3.1-channel layout with a center channel and Clear Voice. That example does not establish the same controls for other soundbars.
