If a Play Integrity Fix/Fork script reports a Grep error, the reported workaround is to remove one backslash before a quotation mark in autopif.sh. First back up your device and confirm that the installed script contains the matching line: the fix may not apply to every version or fork.
What the Grep error is—and what it is not
The reported error involves a search pattern in the shell script /data/adb/modules/playintegrityfix/autopif.sh. A troubleshooting article updated September 23, 2026 identifies the pattern around data-icon="preview as the issue and reports that removing the backslash before the quote resolves it. That is a script-edit workaround, not proof that the device has failed a Play Integrity verdict.
Failing BASIC or DEVICE verdicts, or a Play Protect/Store certification problem, are separate symptoms. The exact cause and remedy for those problems cannot be inferred from a Grep parsing error.
Back up and check the installed script
- Make a complete device backup. The reported troubleshooting article recommends backing up before changing the root module file. Ensure you have a recovery option appropriate to your device.
- Open the reported path:
/data/adb/modules/playintegrityfix/autopif.sh. Use a root-capable file manager, a supported file interface in your root manager, or a root shell. The PlayIntegrityFork documentation describes running scripts through a root manager action, root prompt, or supported file explorer: PlayIntegrityFork project documentation. - Find the relevant Grep pattern. Inspect the line containing
data-icon="preview. Do not make a broad search-and-replace or alter other quotation marks. - Only if the line matches, remove the single backslash directly before the quote, so the fragment reads
data-icon="preview. - Save the file and retry the action that produced the error. If your script differs, or Grep still errors, stop rather than assuming this edit applies; check the documentation for your installed fork and review its logs.
Why the fix may not apply to your setup
The workaround is reported by DroidWin in its article updated September 23, 2026: How to Fix Play Integrity Grep Error. The available project documentation does not independently confirm that this exact typo occurs in every release or fork. The installed file is therefore the deciding check: edit only if its pattern matches the report.

If the error persists, troubleshoot the broader module separately
For other Play Integrity Fix/Fork problems, the project documentation recommends examining module logs and checking for conflicts. For example, it gives this logcat filter:
adb shell "logcat | grep 'PIF/'"It also describes checking whether Google Play Services is on the Magisk DenyList when Enforce DenyList is enabled. Treat these as broader project troubleshooting suggestions, not as confirmed repairs for the specific quoting error. A failed verdict, certification issue, or module conflict needs diagnosis based on its own symptoms and logs.
