On most LG OLED TVs, open Settings → Picture → Aspect Ratio and choose a fit that keeps the picture undistorted. The exact menu path depends on your webOS version, and available choices can vary by model, signal, and picture mode.
Change the aspect ratio by webOS version
Use the labels shown on your TV; LG’s general instructions cover multiple models, so the menu may look different. These paths are from LG’s aspect-ratio guide, dated July 17, 2026.
- webOS 24 or 23: Press the Settings button on the remote, open Settings, then choose Picture → Aspect Ratio. Select the option you want.
- webOS 22 or webOS 6.0: Press Settings, then go to All Settings → Picture → Aspect Ratio → User Selection.
- webOS 5.0 or older: Press Settings, then go to All Settings → Picture → Aspect Ratio Settings → Aspect Ratio.
If a listed menu is absent, check the user guide for your exact TV model rather than assuming every LG OLED offers the same controls.

Choose a fit that matches the problem
Start with the picture symptom, not a setting name: preserving the source’s proportions avoids distortion, while filling more of the screen may crop the edges. LG’s support guidance identifies these settings as things to check, not a universal best choice for every program.

If the picture looks stretched
Check whether the aspect ratio is set to 16:9. If the image still looks wrong, try Original Ratio. These are LG’s recommended checks for a picture that does not fit correctly; availability can differ by model. See LG’s picture-fit troubleshooting guide, dated August 14, 2025.
If the picture is enlarged or captions are cut off
Look for Zoom, Cinema Zoom, or another zoom option and switch away from it to test the fit. Zoom settings can enlarge the image and cut off part of the screen, including captions. Names and availability vary by model. LG describes these symptoms in its screen and caption troubleshooting guide, dated August 14, 2025.

If the image has unused screen area
A setting that preserves the original proportions may leave unused space rather than stretching the picture. If you prefer a fuller screen, try another available fit, but check the edges and captions afterward: filling the display can crop content or change its shape.

Aspect-ratio and other picture settings may be separate for different sources. LG says settings can change when switching among HDMI, Live TV, and other inputs unless Apply to All Inputs is selected. Built-in apps may also return to defaults after you leave an app or turn off the TV.

- Switch to the input or built-in app where the picture looks wrong.
- Open that source’s aspect-ratio menu and adjust the fit there.
- If the TV offers Apply to All Inputs and you want one setting across sources, select it.
- Recheck the picture after switching sources or reopening an app; if it resets, adjust the setting while using that source.
