If a PlayStation Store download is slow, queued, or stuck, first check PlayStation Network status, then work through the console’s download queue, available storage, internet connection, and system software. Try these free, reversible steps before reinstalling a game or using Safe Mode. The steps differ between PS5 and PS4.
1. Check PlayStation Network service status
Before changing console or router settings, check the PlayStation Network service status page. If a relevant service has an alert, wait for it to recover and try the download again. Service conditions change, so check the live page rather than assuming an outage.
2. Restart a download that will not start
If the download is queued or has not begun, pause it and resume it. If that does not work, cancel and delete the download entry, then start the download again from your Library. This removes the stalled download entry; it is not an instruction to delete saved games.

On PS5
- Open Downloads/Uploads in the control center.
- Select the affected download and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If it still will not start, select the download, choose Cancel and Delete, then find the game in your Library and retry the download.
On PS4
- From the function screen, open Notifications, then Downloads.
- Select the affected download and choose Pause, then Resume.
- If that fails, cancel and delete the download, then retry it from your Library.

3. Confirm there is enough free storage
A download can fail or stop if the console does not have enough space. Compare the game’s stated minimum requirement with the console’s available storage, and free enough space before retrying. PlayStation’s error-code index associates PS4 error CE-37704-1 with a download canceled because the HDD does not have enough space: PS4 error codes.

- In Game Library, select the game.
- Open the more menu and choose View Product to check the required space.
- Open Settings > Storage to see available space.

- In PlayStation Store, select the game and open Details to check the minimum required free space.
- Open Settings > Storage to see available space.

4. Test the console’s internet connection
A connection test can help distinguish a local network problem from a queue or storage issue. It does not establish that Sony’s servers, your internet provider, or Wi-Fi is the cause, but it gives you a useful check before moving to more disruptive steps.
- PS5: Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- PS4: Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
If Wi-Fi appears unstable and you have access to Ethernet, try connecting the console to the router with a cable as a diagnostic. It is optional and does not resolve a PlayStation service outage or guarantee a faster Store download. PlayStation mentions trying a wired connection when possible in its game troubleshooting guidance.

If you see PS5 error CE-107928-7
PlayStation identifies CE-107928-7 as an error that stopped a game download. Its code-specific instructions include deleting and retrying the download, testing the connection, checking or resetting network settings, and turning off the modem and/or router for five minutes before turning it back on. Treat the router restart as guidance for this error, not a guaranteed fix for every slow download. See PlayStation’s CE-107928-7 support page.
5. Update the console system software
Check that the console is running current system software, then retry the download. PlayStation’s update troubleshooting also recommends testing the connection and restarting the console; if the issue continues, its guidance moves on to deleting and reinstalling the game or using the model-appropriate Safe Mode database recovery. 6. Use the correct Safe Mode option for your console
If checking service status, restarting the queue item, confirming storage, testing the connection, and updating system software have not helped, use PlayStation’s current Safe Mode instructions for your console model. Safe Mode options differ by generation.
- PS5: Start the console in Safe Mode and select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- PS4: Start the console in Safe Mode and select Rebuild Database.
Do not substitute one model’s option name for the other. The model-specific sequence is in PlayStation’s download troubleshooting guide.

7. Follow the error code if the download remains stuck
Error codes point to different failure types, so use the support page for the exact code rather than applying one fix to every download problem. For example, PS4 CE-36244-9 means a download was suspended and the downloaded content is likely corrupted. PlayStation advises restarting the PS4 and download; if the error recurs, review local network settings, try another network if available, or wait if the connection is temporarily busy. Its page discusses storage and system initialization only for persistent cases, so do not treat initialization as an early troubleshooting step: PlayStation’s CE-36244-9 support page.
If the code persists after following its model-specific instructions, contact PlayStation Support with the exact error code and console model.
