Restart Windows and try opening NVIDIA’s app again. If the error is tied to an installation or update failure, NVIDIA’s general installer guidance is to retry after a restart, then uninstall the previous NVIDIA software, reboot, and reinstall. These are cautious recovery steps—not a confirmed fix for error 0x0003: NVIDIA’s available guidance does not diagnose that code specifically.
What error 0x0003 means—and what is not confirmed
The available official guidance does not establish a specific cause for GeForce Experience error 0x0003. It does not confirm that the code means an NVIDIA service is stopped, that the graphics card is faulty, or that a particular driver or firewall setting is responsible. Treat the steps below as general Windows and NVIDIA recovery guidance, not as a code-specific diagnosis.
Try the least disruptive steps first
1. Restart and retry
Restart Windows, then try launching the NVIDIA application again. Restarting and retrying is NVIDIA’s first general recommendation for installer issues.
2. Repair the app if Windows offers that option
For an application that supports Windows’ repair controls, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the application, choose Advanced options, then select Repair if it appears. Microsoft notes that Repair and Reset are not available for every desktop application. If you do not see these controls for GeForce Experience or the NVIDIA app, skip this step.

If the problem started during an install or update
NVIDIA’s installer article covers general NVIDIA App or graphics-driver installer failures, not error 0x0003 itself. If your problem is connected to installing or updating NVIDIA software, follow its general recovery sequence:
- Restart Windows and retry the installation or update.
- If that does not help, uninstall the previous NVIDIA software.
- Restart Windows, then reinstall from NVIDIA’s official download source.
NVIDIA also describes stopping NVIDIA Windows services and ensuring no NVIDIA application is running as part of further installer-reset steps. Those instructions address installer troubleshooting; they do not verify a service-related cause for error 0x0003. Follow the details in NVIDIA’s “Solving NVIDIA Installer Issues” support article rather than changing services based on an assumed diagnosis.

When to consider Reset or uninstalling
Windows may offer Reset alongside Repair under Settings > Apps > Installed apps > [application] > Advanced options. Reset is more consequential than Repair and may remove app data or settings, so check the app’s effects before using it. Microsoft also suggests uninstalling an app when installation, removal, or update problems persist; reinstall only from NVIDIA’s official source.

If error 0x0003 continues
Contact NVIDIA support and provide the exact error text, your Windows version, whether the problem began during an install or update, and the steps you have already tried. The official sources cited here do not establish a guaranteed fix or a code-specific cause. You do not need to assume that the GPU is defective or buy replacement hardware based on this error alone.
