A Logitech mouse that stops working in Windows 11 usually has a simple cause: the receiver is connected through a bad USB port, the mouse is switched off, the battery is depleted, Bluetooth pairing has failed, or Windows has loaded a damaged device driver. Work through the checks below in order. Stop when the mouse works; reinstalling drivers is rarely the first step.
1. Identify which type of Logitech mouse you have
The correct fix depends on how the mouse connects to the PC.
| Mouse connection | What to check first |
|---|---|
| USB cable | The cable, USB port, and whether Windows detects the device |
| 2.4 GHz wireless receiver | The receiver, battery, power switch, and USB connection |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth being enabled, battery level, and the Windows pairing entry |
If you are unsure, a wireless Logitech mouse normally has a small USB receiver, while a Bluetooth model pairs directly with Windows and does not need that receiver.

- Turn the mouse off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again. On some models the switch is on the underside.
- Replace the AA or AAA batteries, or charge the mouse if it has a built-in battery. Do not rely only on the battery indicator in Logitech software.
- If it is a wired mouse, unplug it and connect it directly to another USB port.
- If it uses a wireless receiver, unplug the receiver and reconnect it to a different USB port. Avoid a USB hub, docking station, or monitor port while testing.
- Check for an LED or sensor light where the model provides one. A light that never turns on after changing batteries points to a power, switch, cable, or hardware problem.
Test the mouse on another computer if possible. If it fails there as well, Windows 11 is unlikely to be the cause. Try another cable or receiver only if that replacement is compatible with the specific Logitech model; a random Logitech receiver is not automatically interchangeable.

- Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
- You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
- Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
- The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
3. Restart Windows properly
Use Start > Power > Restart. Do not test only by waking the computer from sleep. A restart reloads Windows device services and can clear a temporary USB, Bluetooth, or HID problem.
If the mouse is your only pointing device, use the keyboard: press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, press Tab until the power button is selected, open it with Enter, choose Restart with the arrow keys, and press Enter.
4. Check whether Windows sees the mouse
Press Win + X, then open Device Manager. Expand these sections:

- Human Interface Devices
- Bluetooth, for a Bluetooth mouse
- Universal Serial Bus controllers, for a receiver or wired USB mouse
Look for a Logitech entry, HID-compliant mouse, USB Input Device, or an item with a yellow warning icon. A Logitech mouse may not be labelled with its retail model name.
If the device is listed but disabled, right-click it and choose Enable device. If the menu says Disable device, Windows already considers it enabled. If the entry disappears when you unplug the receiver and returns when you reconnect it, the USB connection is being detected and the problem is more likely a driver, pairing, or mouse-side issue.

5. Reinstall the mouse device in Device Manager
Use this step when the mouse appears in Device Manager but does not respond.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click the Logitech mouse or the relevant HID-compliant mouse and select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the removal. Do not select an option to remove unrelated USB or HID devices.
- Restart Windows.
Windows should detect the mouse again and install its standard HID driver. If the device does not return, open Device Manager, select Action > Scan for hardware changes, and then restart once more.
6. Update Windows and the device driver
First check Windows Update: open Start > Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, install available updates, and restart.
You can also check for optional driver packages at Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates. Install a relevant input or Bluetooth driver only when it is clearly offered for your hardware.
For the mouse itself:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the mouse entry and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
For a Bluetooth mouse, also update the Bluetooth adapter under Bluetooth in Device Manager. If the problem began immediately after a driver or Windows update, open the device’s Properties > Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver if Windows makes that button available.

7. Fix a Bluetooth Logitech mouse
If the mouse is Bluetooth rather than receiver-based, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices and make sure Bluetooth is on.
Recommended Free Tools
- Switch the mouse off and on.
- Put it into pairing mode. The method varies by model; commonly, you hold the Easy-Switch or Bluetooth button until its indicator flashes.
- In Windows, select Add device > Bluetooth.
- Select the Logitech mouse when it appears.
If an old entry is present but the mouse will not reconnect, select the three-dot menu beside it, choose Remove device, restart Windows, and pair it again. Keep the mouse close to the computer during pairing and temporarily turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices if Windows keeps selecting the wrong device.
8. Check Logitech Options+ or Logi Options
Logitech’s software is useful for button assignments, scrolling, gestures, profiles, and firmware updates, but the mouse should normally work as a basic pointing device without it. If the pointer does not move at all, fix the Windows connection before concentrating on button settings.
After Windows detects the mouse, open the installed Logitech application and check whether it shows the correct model. If it does not:
- Reconnect the receiver directly to the PC.
- Close and reopen the Logitech software.
- Install the current version of Logitech Options+ from Logitech’s official support site if your model supports it.
- Check for a firmware update, but do not disconnect the receiver or switch off the mouse during the update.
Some older Logitech devices are supported by Logitech Options or SetPoint rather than Options+. Installing software intended for a different model may not restore the connection and can create additional configuration problems.

- Click more. Scroll more. Do more. Logitech Marathon Mouse M705 uses far less power than comparable wireless mice from other companies. That means you can go up to three full years between battery changes.*
- Hyper-fast scrolling lets you fly through long documents and Web pages with a single spin of a nearly frictionless metal scroll wheel.
- The sculpted, right-hand shape guides your hand to a naturally comfortable position and places customizable control within your reach. Two thumb buttons lets you move quickly between Web pages.**
- The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There's no need to unplug it when you move around, so there's less worry of it being broken or lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
- Laser grade tracking delivers smooth, responsive, precise cursor control on surfaces that cause problems for standard optical mice, such as polished or wood-grain tables.***
9. Stop USB power management from interrupting the receiver
If the mouse works after reconnecting the receiver but stops after sleep or after several minutes, USB power management may be involved.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Open the properties of a relevant USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub.
- On the Power Management tab, clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, if that option is available.
- Select OK and restart Windows.
Do not change every power setting indiscriminately. If the issue affects only one receiver, test the receiver in another port first and change the setting only if the symptom continues.
10. Deal with a mouse that moves but clicks or scrolls incorrectly
A working pointer with failed buttons is not the same problem as a mouse that Windows cannot detect.
- Clean dirt from the sensor and the gaps around the buttons with a dry, non-abrasive method.
- Try a different surface; reflective glass can interfere with optical tracking.
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse and check the primary button, pointer speed, and scrolling options.
- Test the mouse without Logitech button customizations. A profile or assignment may have changed what a button does.
- If only one physical button fails on multiple computers, the switch is probably worn or defective rather than a Windows 11 configuration issue.
11. Use the symptom or error message to choose the next step
| Symptom | Most likely next action |
|---|---|
| No lights, no pointer, and no detection on another PC | Replace batteries or cable; suspect the mouse hardware |
| Receiver does not appear on any USB port | Test another computer and check for receiver damage |
| Mouse appears in Device Manager with a warning icon | Update or uninstall the device, then restart |
| Bluetooth mouse appears but will not connect | Remove the Windows pairing and pair it again |
| Mouse works in Windows but not in Logitech software | Repair or update the Logitech application and verify model support |
| Mouse stops after sleep | Try another USB port and review USB hub power management |
| Pointer works but buttons do not | Check Windows mouse settings, profiles, and the physical buttons |
When the problem is probably hardware
Contact Logitech or replace the mouse when it fails on more than one computer, a wired cable is visibly damaged, the receiver is not detected anywhere, the battery compartment is corroded, or the mouse repeatedly disconnects after you have tested different ports and fresh batteries. If a receiver is lost, check Logitech’s compatibility information before buying a replacement; some models support receiver pairing while others require the original receiver or Bluetooth.
FAQ
Why is my Logitech mouse not working even though the USB receiver is plugged in?
The receiver may be in a faulty USB port, connected through a hub, or not paired with the mouse. Connect it directly to another USB port, replace the batteries, restart Windows, and check Device Manager for a Logitech or HID-compliant mouse entry.

How do I reset a Logitech wireless mouse in Windows 11?
Turn the mouse off and on, remove and reconnect its USB receiver, and restart Windows. If it uses Bluetooth, go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices, remove the mouse, place it in pairing mode, and select Add device > Bluetooth.
Do I need Logitech Options+ for the mouse to work?
No. Windows should provide basic pointer and button operation through its standard HID driver. Options+ is mainly needed for custom buttons, profiles, gestures, and supported firmware updates.
Why does my Logitech mouse work after reconnecting but stop after sleep?
Windows may be putting the USB receiver into a low-power state. Try a different direct USB port and, if the issue continues, review the USB Root Hub or Generic USB Hub Power Management settings in Device Manager.
The Bottom Line
Start with power, the USB port or Bluetooth pairing, and a direct test on another computer. Then check Device Manager, reinstall or update the HID device, and only afterward troubleshoot Logitech software or USB power management. If the mouse fails on another computer too, Windows 11 is not the underlying problem.
