Fix an inaccurate caption by editing the caption track and checking its timing; if the spoken name itself is wrong, edit or replace the audio as well. First determine whether the mistake is in the text, the recorded speech, or both. Then review the version viewers will actually see or download.
First identify what is wrong
Play the relevant part of the video and compare the audio with the caption. If the speaker said the name correctly but the caption spells it incorrectly, correct the caption text. If the speaker pronounced the name incorrectly, a text edit changes only what viewers read; it does not repair the recorded speech. A video may have both problems, so check the audio and text separately.
Also consider whether the caption is complete, not just whether the name is spelled correctly. YouTube defines captions as including spoken words and sound cues, and captions may identify speakers. Its glossary describes a transcript as “Unformatted (and untimed) text that’s transcribed verbatim from the video.” YouTube Help: Translation & transcription glossary

Fix captions on a video already uploaded to YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the video’s subtitles.
- Open the automatic caption track. YouTube’s instructions say to duplicate the automatic track and edit the copy.
- Correct the name and any other inaccurate words. Check that the caption appears at the right time and remains on screen long enough to read.
- Publish the revised track, then play the video and confirm the published captions show the correction.
YouTube also documents editing caption timing in its editor or by downloading the caption file. The exact controls can depend on the caption workflow. See YouTube Help: Edit or remove captions.

Correct captions in Adobe Premiere
If you are already editing the video in Premiere, correct the transcript or captions in the project before delivering the video. Adobe documents a Speech to Text workflow to generate a transcript, create captions, and edit them. Its guide also covers transcription preferences such as language, speaker labeling, and audio analysis. Adobe last updated that guide on June 2, 2026; consult it for the current interface and supported options: Adobe Help: Auto transcribe video using Speech to Text in Premiere.
Adobe describes caption delivery options that include burned-in subtitles, sidecar files, and embedded captions in supported formats. Choose the output that matches where and how the video will be played, and check Adobe’s current product information for applicable format and language support: Adobe: Transcribe video to text with AI.

Prevent recurring name errors in future transcriptions
If a service supports reusable vocabulary, adding a name or domain-specific term may help when you generate a new transcript. This is a prevention step for future transcription, not a correction to captions already published.

Amazon Transcribe custom vocabularies are designed for particular words, including proper nouns and terms that are repeatedly rendered incorrectly. They are specific to the service and language; support and setup depend on the language being transcribed. AWS distinguishes these word-specific vocabularies from custom language models, which address context across larger volumes of domain-specific speech. AWS also says custom-vocabulary display effects are not applied when a custom language model is active in the same request. Do not assume every video editor offers a reusable pronunciation dictionary, or that adding a vocabulary guarantees the name will be transcribed correctly. Check the feature and language support for the specific service you use.
Choose the fix that matches your situation

Choose based on whether the video is already published, whether you need to fix an existing track or generate a new transcript, whether your tool supports reusable vocabulary for the language, and what caption format the audience needs. The available documentation does not establish that one of these services is more accurate overall.

Check the delivered video, not just the editing screen
After editing, review the actual export or published version. Captions may be a separate track, embedded in the file, or burned into the image. Confirm the correction is visible in the form viewers will receive, and check its timing against the audio. If the speaker said the name incorrectly, correcting the caption alone leaves the speech unchanged; the audio must be addressed separately.
