If Morkvarg won’t talk or In Wolf’s Clothing will not progress, first check the exact objective currently shown in your Journal. The quest has several branches and stages, and the right next step depends on where your save is stuck. For a quest that will not complete, CD PROJEKT RED recommends verifying the game files and loading a save from before the problem; a historical bug after reading Morkvarg’s journal is another reason to check that the game is updated.

Check the Journal objective before repeating the encounter

Open the Journal and read the current objective for In Wolf’s Clothing. The quest can involve finding Morkvarg, speaking with him, reading his journal, investigating the chapter house or flooded cave, learning about the curse from Einar, lifting the curse, and reporting back to collect a reward. Your save may have completed some stages or taken a different branch, so use its current objective rather than assuming every step remains outstanding.

  • If the objective is to find Morkvarg: continue the garden investigation and deal with the werewolf as the Journal directs.
  • If the objective involves his journal: read it, then check whether the Journal advances. Patch 1.07 documented a progression issue after reading Morkvarg’s journal, so update the game and consider loading a save from before the stall if the objective remains blocked.
  • If the objective points to Einar or the curse: follow that lead. Einar’s account connects the curse with the cursed fang.
  • If the objective is to report back or collect the reward: return to the priestess and check whether the remaining issue is only a Journal entry, not an unfinished quest step.

If Morkvarg won’t talk

Make sure the active Journal objective actually calls for speaking with Morkvarg. The quest’s encounter and curse-resolution branches can make the next objective different from a conversation, and the available guidance does not establish one universal fix for every dialogue lock or spawn problem.

CD PROJEKT RED also notes that a different active quest can block progress: “During some quests another quest activates which needs to be completed first in order to progress.” Check your quest log for a newly active related quest and complete its required step before trying the interaction again.

Know what the two curse choices do

These are story outcomes, not technical repairs for a broken interaction. Choose based on the result you want once the quest gives you the option:

Choice Documented outcome
Feed Morkvarg flesh from his own body Kills him as a werewolf.
Use the cursed fang Lifts the curse and restores his human form.

Try the official troubleshooting steps for a blocked quest

  1. Check for a game update. Patch 1.07 recorded a fix for a progression issue after reading Morkvarg’s journal. That historical fix does not establish that every current stall has the same cause.
  2. Check for another quest that must be completed first. CD PROJEKT RED says some quests activate another quest that needs to be completed before progress can continue.
  3. Verify the game files, then load an earlier save. These are the official support page’s first troubleshooting steps for a quest that will not complete or progress. Its instructions cover PC; on other platforms, follow the platform’s equivalent support process rather than applying Windows file-verification steps.

Tell a real progression block from a stale Journal entry

Patch 1.10 documented a separate issue in which In Wolf’s Clothing could remain active in the Journal despite all objectives being complete. A community quest reference also notes that the priestesses objective may remain displayed without preventing completion. If the apparent problem is only a lingering marker, check whether the actual objectives and reward are complete before replaying a substantial section of the quest.

Handle the New Game Plus kill issue separately

A later patch changelog records an issue that could make killing Morkvarg impossible in New Game Plus. This applies if your specific problem is that you cannot kill him in NG+; it does not explain every case where he will not talk or an objective fails to update.

Contact support if the save remains blocked

If the objective still will not advance after the relevant checks, send CD PROJEKT RED Support a useful bug report. Include the quest name, a save file, and whether you used mods, console commands, or trainers. The support page lists the PC save folder as %userprofile%DocumentsThe Witcher 3gamesaves. Its published troubleshooting guidance is for PC, so console players should use the applicable platform support route.
