When a Google Antigravity agent appears frozen, do not immediately resubmit the prompt or loosen every security setting. First identify where the task is running, preserve the exact error, and determine whether the blockage is the project context, CLI startup, approval policy, sandbox, an execution loop, or Remote Control connectivity. The correct fix depends on that layer. This guide gives a diagnostic sequence for the IDE, CLI, local worktrees, and Remote Control, with separate guidance for macOS, Linux, and Windows.

Start by identifying what actually failed

A task can look stuck for several different reasons: the agent may be working in a different project folder, waiting for command approval, unable to access a path or network, looping during execution, or still running on the host while the browser view is disconnected. Treat “stuck” as an observation, not a diagnosis.

Preserve the exact evidence

Before restarting anything, copy the complete error text and note:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Whether the task was started in the Antigravity IDE, the agy CLI, or through Remote Control.
  • Your operating system and Antigravity version.
  • The project folder, repository, or worktree selected for the conversation.
  • Whether the failure happens on the local host, only in a remote browser session, or in both places.
  • The last visible agent message, command, approval request, or file and network operation.

These details let you distinguish a launch failure from an agent that launched but cannot complete one operation. They also make it possible to undo a change if a later permission or sandbox adjustment is not the cause.

Use the right execution context

Antigravity’s getting-started workflow lets you create a project, add local folders or Git repositories, and start an agent in either Local or New worktree mode. Check that the conversation is associated with the folder you intend to modify. If the agent edits another checkout or appears to ignore files, the problem may be project targeting rather than model execution. Review the current project and folder association before changing permissions. See Google Antigravity Getting started for the current project and execution-mode screens.

Check whether the IDE or CLI is failing

The same symptom has different remedies depending on the execution surface. An IDE conversation that waits for approval is not fixed in the same way as a terminal that cannot find agy.

What you observe Most useful first check Likely layer
The IDE opens, but the task does nothing Inspect the conversation’s project, folder, and pending approval prompt Project context or permission
The terminal says agy: command not found Check whether the Antigravity binary directory is in PATH CLI installation or shell environment
The CLI starts but hangs while signing in Check credential and operating-system keyring access Authentication or keyring
A command or file operation is denied Read the permission and sandbox error before retrying Approval, filesystem sandbox, or network sandbox
The agent repeats commands Stop the active turn with Esc, then inspect the last command and approval state Execution loop or unresolved blocker
The Remote Control page disappears Check host connectivity, sleep state, Remote Control, and account matching Remote display or host availability

Fix CLI launch and authentication failures

If the failure occurs before an agent turn starts, use the official Google Antigravity CLI troubleshooting guidance rather than changing agent behavior settings.

When the shell reports “agy: command not found”

This message means the shell cannot locate the CLI executable. The documented cause is a missing Antigravity binary directory in the shell’s PATH. Confirm that the CLI installation completed, identify the directory containing the agy binary, and add that directory to the environment used by the shell where you launch the command. Then open a new terminal session and invoke agy again.

Be careful about shell scope: a path change made in one terminal profile may not apply to another shell, an IDE-integrated terminal, or a new login session. If the command works in one terminal but not another, compare their environment rather than reinstalling the agent.

When launch hangs around credentials or a keyring

The CLI troubleshooting documentation identifies keyring access problems as a cause of launch hangs or failed token retrieval. Check that the operating system’s credential store is available to the user and session running agy. A locked desktop session, unavailable keyring service, or denied credential-store prompt can prevent authentication even when the network is working.

Record whether the error occurs before a sign-in prompt, during token retrieval, or after authentication. Those are separate stages. Resolve the keyring or credential-store message first; repeatedly starting the agent can create multiple incomplete login attempts without changing the underlying access problem.

Separate updater and SSH messages from task execution

The CLI troubleshooting page also covers updater and SSH-related conditions. If one of those messages appears, treat it as a CLI environment problem and resolve it before diagnosing an agent task. A task cannot execute reliably until the command-line client can start, authenticate, and reach the selected project.

Check approvals and permission presets before changing security

An agent can be active while waiting for you to approve a terminal command. Look for a pending prompt in the IDE or terminal before submitting the same instruction again. Project-level settings can override general settings, so inspect the project’s effective policy rather than assuming a global choice applies.

macOS and Linux permission presets

Antigravity’s documented permission system for macOS and Linux describes three relevant presets in Agent settings:

Preset Documented behavior Diagnostic implication
Default Commands inside the Terminal sandbox can run; commands outside it require approval A task may pause until you approve an operation outside the sandbox
Request Review Every terminal command requires approval Frequent pauses are expected unless each request is accepted
Turbo Isolation and restrictions are removed Fewer approval blocks, but substantially broader command access and risk

Use the least access that permits the task. Do not switch to Turbo as a reflex for an unexplained failure. If a command is outside the allowed area, first determine why it needs that location or capability, then approve only that operation when appropriate. A permission error is useful evidence; removing the control can hide the actual path or network requirement.

Windows uses different controls

The newer macOS and Linux permission presets do not describe Windows behavior. On Windows, inspect the terminal command auto-execution policy and the separate sandbox settings. If a Windows task appears to wait, determine whether Antigravity is asking for command approval or whether the command is being prevented by sandbox restrictions. Use the platform-specific controls shown in the current settings interface rather than applying macOS or Linux instructions.

Recognize an approval wait

Approval waits often have a clear command, path, or policy explanation in the interface. If the last agent message requests confirmation, approve or reject that request deliberately and observe the result. If no request is visible, capture the last output and move to sandbox or project checks instead of repeatedly clicking Run.

Inspect sandbox filesystem and network limits

A command can be valid and still fail because the sandbox does not permit the requested resource. The Google Antigravity Settings documentation separates filesystem and network controls.

Filesystem failures

With sandboxing enabled, a command may be unable to read or write a path outside the designated workspace. Compare the requested path with the project folder associated with the conversation. A task that tries to modify a parent directory, another checkout, a system location, or an external mount may be blocked even though the same command would work in an unrestricted terminal.

  • Read the denied path exactly; do not infer it from the natural-language prompt.
  • Confirm that the intended repository is the active project.
  • Prefer moving the needed file into the approved workspace or revising the task to use a permitted path.
  • Only broaden filesystem access when the operation genuinely requires it and you understand the security consequence.

Network failures

Network access can be denied separately from filesystem access. A package download, API request, Git operation, or other network-dependent command may fail even when local files are accessible. Check the network setting and the command’s destination before concluding that the agent itself is broken. If the project does not need network access, keep the restriction in place and adjust the task to use already available files.

Do not combine a path change and a network-policy change in the same retry. Change one relevant condition, run the smallest test that exercises it, and preserve the resulting error if it still fails. This isolates the blocking layer and avoids granting more access than necessary.

Stop an agent that is looping

If the agent repeatedly initiates an unwanted operation or cycles through commands, stop the active turn before changing the prompt. Google’s CLI Prompting & Interaction documentation states: “If the agent initiates an undesired task or loops during command execution, press Esc to immediately halt the session.” See the full guidance at Google Antigravity CLI Prompting & Interaction.

  1. Press Esc once to halt the active turn.
  2. Read the final command, output, and any approval or denial message.
  3. Check whether the loop was caused by a missing file, denied command, failed test, or instruction that allows repeated retries.
  4. Correct the project path, permission, sandbox access, or task wording that the evidence identifies.
  5. Retry with a narrow instruction and a clear stopping condition, such as asking the agent to report the first failing command rather than rerun it.

Interrupting stops the current activity; it does not explain why the loop occurred. If the same cycle returns, preserve both the repeated command and its output and investigate that dependency instead of treating another interruption as a permanent fix.

Tell a Remote Control disconnect from a stopped host task

A missing browser view is not proof that the host-side task stopped. According to the Google Antigravity Remote Control documentation, background tasks and shell commands continue on the host after the web interface disconnects, provided the host retains internet connectivity.

Checks when the browser view is missing or reconnecting

  • Confirm Remote Control is enabled on the desktop host.
  • Verify that the host still has internet access.
  • Make sure the host is awake and not suspended.
  • Sign in with the same Google Account on the desktop application and browser.
  • Reconnect and inspect the host’s task or terminal state before launching a duplicate task.

If the host is asleep, offline, or signed into a different account, the web interface may not be able to show or control the session. Once connected again, look for the original process and its last output. Starting a second copy before checking can create competing edits or duplicate commands.

When the host really stopped

If the host lost power, entered suspension, or lost the required connectivity, the documented continuity condition was not met. Resume the host, restore connectivity, reconnect Remote Control, and determine whether the command completed, failed, or never started. Then continue with the relevant project, permission, or sandbox check rather than assuming the browser caused the failure.

Use this decision table to route the next check

Execution surface Operating system context Observation Next action
IDE Any supported system No visible progress and no error Verify project folder, repository, Local/New worktree mode, and pending approval
CLI Any agy: command not found Fix the CLI binary directory in PATH
CLI Any Sign-in or token retrieval hangs Check operating-system keyring and credential access
IDE or CLI macOS/Linux Command waits for confirmation Review Default or Request Review behavior and the project-level override
IDE or CLI Windows Command is not auto-executed Inspect Windows terminal auto-execution and sandbox settings
IDE or CLI Any Path access denied Compare the path with the designated workspace and filesystem sandbox
IDE or CLI Any Network request denied Inspect the separate network-access control and destination
CLI Any Commands repeat or an unwanted task continues Press Esc, inspect the last output, then retry narrowly
Remote Control Host-dependent Browser disconnects Check host internet, power state, Remote Control, and matching account

Verify that the computer meets the documented platform requirements

Compatibility information can change between releases, so confirm the current download and setup page before troubleshooting a new installation. The getting-started documentation currently lists these minimums:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Platform Documented requirement
macOS macOS 12 (Monterey) or later; x86 is not supported
Windows Windows 10, 64-bit
Linux glibc 2.28 or later and glibcxx 3.4.25 or later; Ubuntu 20, Debian 10, Fedora 36, and RHEL 8 are listed examples

These are platform prerequisites, not a guarantee that every project command will work. An installation can meet them and still encounter a missing PATH entry, unavailable keyring, denied approval, or sandbox restriction.

Retry with a controlled recovery procedure

After locating the failure layer, use a small, reversible retry rather than replaying the entire original task.

  1. Return to the intended project and confirm the exact folder or worktree.
  2. Make sure the client can launch and authenticate; for the CLI, resolve PATH or keyring errors first.
  3. Check for an approval request and respond according to the project’s policy.
  4. Confirm that required files are inside the permitted workspace and that any required network access is allowed.
  5. For an active loop, press Esc and save the final output.
  6. Run a minimal probe, such as asking the agent to list the target file or explain the first failing command, before requesting broad edits.
  7. Retry the original task with an explicit scope, expected output, and stopping condition.
  8. Compare the new output with the preserved error. If the same failure returns, revert the last setting change and escalate with the full evidence.

A minimal probe prevents a permission or path problem from being buried inside a long multi-step run. It also shows whether the fix affected the intended execution surface.

Prevent common “stuck” reports

  • Open each conversation in the correct project and check the associated folders before asking for edits.
  • Keep the shell environment consistent so the CLI binary is available in the terminal where you use it.
  • Leave approval prompts visible and review them before assuming the agent has stopped.
  • Use the narrowest permission preset and sandbox access that the task needs.
  • When a task requires an external path or network, state that requirement explicitly so a denial is understandable.
  • For Remote Control, keep the host awake, online, and signed into the same Google Account as the browser session.
  • Capture exact errors, commands, paths, and platform details before restarting.

These practices do not eliminate every agent failure, but they make the failure layer observable and reduce duplicate runs, accidental edits, and unnecessary privilege changes.
