If Gears of War: E-Day is crashing, stuttering, or running at low FPS on PC, start by checking whether it is installed on an SSD, then identify whether the problem is shader compilation, a launch compatibility issue, or actual low performance. The causes differ, and beta-era advice should not automatically be treated as a fix for the October 2026 launch build.
This guide reflects official information checked October 3, 2026, while the game is in early access and public launch is scheduled for October 6, 2026. Requirements, drivers, and fixes can change with updates; check current Gears of War support if the steps below do not resolve the issue.
Start with the symptom—and check the drive
If loading trouble, missing assets, stuttering, or crashes happen together, confirm the installation is on an SSD before changing graphics settings. The official beta FAQ said mechanical hard drives were unsupported and could cause severe loading issues, missing assets, stuttering, or crashes. That warning was published for the beta, so treat it as a reason to check the installation—not proof that every launch-build failure has the same cause.
- Check the drive where E-Day is installed in the Xbox PC app or the store app you use.
- If it is on a mechanical HDD, move or reinstall the game to an SSD, then test again.
- If it is already on an SSD, check that drive for reported errors before assuming a graphics setting is responsible.
Match any replacement SSD to your PC’s interface, form factor, capacity needs, and available slot or bay; the storage warning does not establish that one particular SSD model is required.

If the game crashes on startup or while recording
Do not apply beta-specific workarounds as universal launch fixes. The beta FAQ documented two particular cases; current compatibility may differ.
Xbox PC app reports LowLevelFatalError
For the beta, the FAQ directed players seeing LowLevelFatalError in the Xbox PC app to Microsoft’s Gaming Services Repair Tool. This is beta-era guidance, not a confirmed fix for every launch-build crash. If the error persists, consult current Gears of War support.

Crashes when recording with OBS
The beta FAQ said older OBS versions could cause crashes and advised OBS 29.0.0 or newer. Because this applies to the beta, verify current OBS and game compatibility before changing recording software based on that version alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUpdate drivers, but use current requirements
The beta FAQ listed NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Driver 610.74 or newer, AMD 26.7.1 or newer, and Intel 101.8864 or newer for its beta build; it warned that the beta would not launch with older NVIDIA drivers. Those are not established as launch requirements. The FAQ also said its PC specifications were not launch specifications, so check the current game guidance and the final specification announcement rather than treating those beta numbers as current minimums.

If stuttering happens around first launch, check shader delivery
Shader compilation can cause stutter, but not every hitch is shader-related. Microsoft describes Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) as delivering precompiled shaders to reduce first-launch CPU compilation work and runtime shader-compilation stutter on supported setups.
For the setup described by Microsoft, the Xbox PC app must be installed before downloading the game, and the system must use Windows 11 24H2 or later. The launch update says the Xbox PC app may enable pre-installation of required shaders even when the game is played outside that app. Support varies by GPU vendor and rollout, so these details do not guarantee ASD is active on every PC.

- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog reported that E-Day’s first-launch shader compilation with ASD takes a few seconds, compared with several minutes on a typical PC without it, and described compilation time as reduced by approximately 95%. These are Microsoft’s feature figures, not independent benchmark results or a promise for every configuration. If stuttering continues after shader compilation, return to storage, driver, and graphics checks rather than assuming ASD will address it.

Check what the FPS counter measures
The Coalition says the game’s benchmark performance overlay does not include generated frames, so it can show a lower-than-accurate FPS value when frame generation is enabled. Before interpreting the number, identify which counter you are reading and whether frame generation is on. Different counters may not represent the same thing.

Choose an upscaler based on your PC and target
The PC technology overview lists NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR, and Intel XeSS. It does not rank them or establish a universal performance winner. Compare options supported by your GPU at your target resolution, considering image quality, frame rate, and responsiveness; the best fit can vary by system and settings.
Compare your hardware with the final specification table
Use the final PC specification graphic linked from the September 17 Xbox Wire announcement, which was updated September 28, to compare your CPU, GPU, and memory with the game’s tiers. Do not rely on the beta FAQ’s specifications as launch requirements. If your PC meets the relevant tier and FPS remains low, change graphics options methodically and test one change at a time; available official information does not establish a controlled ranking of settings or upscalers.
Account for the launch build’s memory caveat
The Coalition reported that playing through the full game without reloading checkpoints or restarting may cause memory issues. If you become blocked at an encounter or objective, its advice is to reload the checkpoint. This caveat is not evidence that every crash is caused by memory use.
Check current patches and service status if the problem remains
The Coalition has reported broad stability and performance improvements alongside known issues, so a persistent failure may depend on the current build or service state. Check the official Gears of War support page and the Xbox service-status page for current guidance before repeating beta workarounds.
