If an email sent to a SimpleLogin alias never appears, first verify that the alias is enabled and points to the mailbox you are checking. Then check that mailbox’s inbox, spam and junk folders, filters, and SimpleLogin delivery notifications. A notification can tell you that SimpleLogin received the message but could not deliver it, and it may provide a download of the undelivered email.
Two less-obvious causes account for many confusing tests: a message sent from the destination mailbox to its own alias is intentionally dropped to prevent a forwarding loop, and a sender whose DMARC authentication fails may have its message quarantined. The sequence below separates configuration, mailbox filtering, sender authentication, and forwarding-chain problems without guessing which mail server failed.
Understand the delivery path before changing settings
A SimpleLogin alias is an address that forwards incoming mail to one or more mailboxes assigned to it. The alias itself is not the inbox. A message can therefore be accepted by SimpleLogin and still fail when SimpleLogin tries to deliver it to the destination mailbox.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Think of the path as four checkpoints:
- Alias receipt: the sender’s mail system sends to the alias and SimpleLogin accepts or rejects the message.
- Alias routing: SimpleLogin checks that the alias is active and has at least one assigned mailbox.
- Mailbox delivery: SimpleLogin hands the message to the destination provider, such as Gmail, Outlook or Proton Mail.
- Mailbox filtering: the destination provider places the message in the inbox, spam or junk, quarantine, an archive, or another folder according to its rules.
Your next action depends on which checkpoint has evidence. Do not create extra forwarding rules until you know where the message stopped; another hop can make authentication and diagnosis harder.

| The alias has no assigned or verified mailbox | SimpleLogin configuration | Assign the intended mailbox and complete its verification email. |
| The message is in spam, junk, quarantine or an archive | Destination mailbox filtering | Search all folders and review filters, rules and blocked-sender settings. |
| SimpleLogin sent a delivery-failure notification | Handoff from SimpleLogin to the mailbox | Open the notification and use its download option to retrieve the undelivered message. |
| The sender is the same mailbox assigned to the alias | Intentional self-alias protection | Repeat the test from a different mailbox. |
| Only one sender or service fails | Sender authentication or sender-side policy | Look for a quarantine notice and ask the sender to investigate SPF, DKIM and DMARC. |
| The destination is reached through another forwarding service | Forwarding-chain authentication | Remove unnecessary forwarding and test a direct, verified mailbox. |
Step 1: Confirm the alias and its destination mailbox
Check that the alias is enabled
Sign in to the SimpleLogin dashboard and open the alias details. Confirm that the alias is active, spelled exactly as the sender used, and not disabled. If the sender used an old or mistyped alias, changing the destination of the correct alias will not recover that message.
Verify every assigned mailbox
Review the mailbox list attached to the alias. An alias can forward to more than one mailbox, so check each destination rather than assuming the first one shown is the only recipient. If the intended mailbox is missing, add it or change the assignment in the dashboard.
Complete mailbox verification
A newly added mailbox cannot be used until its verification email is confirmed. Look for that verification message in the mailbox’s inbox, spam and junk folders. If it is still missing, check that the address was entered correctly and contact SimpleLogin support; an unverified mailbox will not function as a delivery destination.

Use the mailbox that is currently assigned and verified for the rest of the test. Changing several aliases or destinations at once makes it difficult to identify which setting fixed the problem.
Step 2: Search the destination mailbox thoroughly
Check every normal location
Search the destination mailbox’s inbox, spam, junk, quarantine, archive and deleted-mail areas. Search by the sender’s address, the subject, the approximate sending time and a distinctive phrase from the message. A message that is absent from the inbox is not necessarily undelivered.
Inspect rules and filters
Review mailbox filters, labels, automatic folders, blocked-sender lists and forwarding rules. A rule may archive the message, mark it as read, move it to a custom folder or delete it immediately. Temporarily disable a rule only if you understand its effect, then send a new test message so you can compare the result.

Allow SimpleLogin service mail
SimpleLogin notes that its own service emails and notifications can be misclassified as spam. If you find those notices in spam or junk, allow messages from simplelogin.io or simplelogin.co according to your mailbox provider’s allow-list controls. This advice applies to SimpleLogin’s service notifications; it does not prove that every forwarded message will show one of those domains as its sender.
After changing a filter, do not rely on an old message moving retroactively. Send a fresh message from a separate test account and record the exact time and subject.
Step 3: Look for a SimpleLogin delivery notification
When SimpleLogin cannot deliver a received message to a destination mailbox, its troubleshooting documentation says it creates a notification and emails the user. Search for a notification around the time of the failed delivery, including spam and junk folders.
Use the notification as a diagnostic boundary
A notification indicates that SimpleLogin had a message to deliver but encountered a problem at the mailbox-delivery stage. That distinguishes a destination handoff failure from a test that never reached the alias. It does not necessarily identify every server involved, so use the details in the notice rather than guessing at a particular mail host.
Download the undelivered message
Open the notification and use its download option if available. Save the message file before changing settings. The downloaded copy preserves useful headers and content for your own review and for a support request. Treat it as a recovery copy, not proof that the destination provider accepted the message.
If no notification exists, continue with the alias, mailbox-filtering and self-alias checks. The absence of a notice does not by itself prove that the sender never connected to SimpleLogin.

Step 4: Make sure the test is not a self-alias message
SimpleLogin intentionally drops an email sent from a mailbox to an alias that forwards back to that same mailbox. Its official troubleshooting guidance describes this behavior as protection against a forwarding loop that could also affect the reverse-alias system.
For example, if person@example.net is the mailbox assigned to random-alias@simplelogin.com, sending from person@example.net to that alias is not a valid delivery test. The message is discarded by design, even though the alias and mailbox may be configured correctly.
Run a valid control test
- Choose a different mailbox that is not an assigned destination for the alias.
- Send a short message with a unique subject, such as
Alias test 2026-10-16 14:05 UTC. - Wait for normal mailbox processing, then search the destination mailbox and its filtered folders.
- Record whether a SimpleLogin notification appears.
If the control test arrives while the self-sent test does not, no configuration repair is required for the self-alias behavior.
Step 5: Investigate sender authentication and DMARC quarantine
How authentication affects alias delivery
SimpleLogin documents a sender-authenticity check based on DMARC. DMARC uses the sender domain’s SPF and DKIM results, together with alignment rules, to determine whether the message appears authorized. If the message fails that check, SimpleLogin may quarantine it depending on the policy published by the sender’s domain.
This is a sender-side identity problem, not a setting that the recipient can repair inside the SimpleLogin dashboard. A message can be perfectly addressed and still be held because the sending domain’s authentication policy does not support the way the message was sent.
Signs that authentication is involved
- Messages from other senders arrive through the same alias, but one sender or service consistently fails.
- A SimpleLogin notice mentions quarantine, authenticity or a policy failure.
- The sender recently changed its domain, email provider, mailing platform or forwarding setup.
What to ask the sender to do
Tell the sender which address you used, the approximate UTC time, and whether other messages from that domain arrive. Ask the sender’s mail administrator to inspect SPF, DKIM signing and DMARC alignment for the exact sending path. The sender may need to correct DNS records or its mail-service configuration; do not attempt to edit the sender’s DNS yourself.

If SimpleLogin presents a quarantine or release option, follow the instructions in that notice. Keep the original message and notification available in case support needs the headers.
Step 6: Remove forwarding chains that alter authentication
SimpleLogin warns against using a forwarding address as a SimpleLogin mailbox and against automatically forwarding an older mailbox into a SimpleLogin alias. Conventional forwarding can rewrite headers or change the authentication context. Combining that forwarding with alias forwarding creates multiple handoffs, each with its own filtering and policy decisions.
Prefer a direct destination
Assign a real, verified mailbox that you can access directly. For a diagnostic test, send to the SimpleLogin alias and let SimpleLogin deliver straight to that mailbox, without an intermediate automatic-forwarding address.
Test one change at a time
- Document the current chain: sender, alias, SimpleLogin destination and any other forwarding service.
- Choose a direct mailbox that is not itself a forwarding address.
- Verify that mailbox in SimpleLogin and assign it to the alias.
- Send a new message from a separate sender.
- Compare the result with the original chain before re-enabling any optional forwarding.
If direct delivery works and the chained route does not, keep the direct route or ask the administrators of the intervening service how it handles SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Adding more forwarding rules is unlikely to repair an authentication failure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Step 7: Run a controlled retest
Once the configuration and filters are correct, use a repeatable test instead of sending random messages. A controlled test gives support and the sender’s administrator facts they can correlate with logs.

- Use a sender mailbox different from every mailbox assigned to the alias.
- Use a unique subject and include the UTC timestamp in the body.
- Send only to the exact alias address shown in the dashboard.
- Keep the sender, destination, alias, subject and send time in a note.
Observe the result
- Search the destination mailbox’s inbox, spam, junk, quarantine and archive.
- Check for a SimpleLogin delivery notification.
- If a notification appears, download the message and preserve it.
- Repeat once from a second, unrelated sender if the first test fails.
The comparison matters. If two independent senders arrive, the original sender is the leading suspect. If neither arrives and SimpleLogin reports delivery failures, focus on the destination mailbox or forwarding path. If neither arrives and there is no notice, recheck the alias address and sender’s delivery status before changing more settings.

Step 8: Escalate with useful details
Contact SimpleLogin support when the mailbox remains verified, the destination folders and filters are clear, self-alias sending has been ruled out, and direct testing still fails. Include enough context for support to distinguish a routing issue from a sender-policy or mailbox-provider rejection.
Include these facts
- The exact alias address, without replacing characters with a description.
- The assigned destination mailbox and confirmation that it is verified.
- The sender address, approximate send time and time zone or UTC time.
- The unique subject used for the test.
- Whether messages from other senders arrive through the alias.
- Whether the sender was the same mailbox assigned as the destination.
- Whether a SimpleLogin delivery notification appeared and whether you downloaded its message.
- Whether another forwarding service, automatic rule or forwarding address is in the path.
- What you found in inbox, spam, junk, quarantine and mailbox filters.
Attach the downloaded message or notification only through the support channel’s accepted method, and redact sensitive content when possible. Public documentation does not establish a universal user-facing way to identify the exact failing mail-server hop in every case, so support may need the timestamp and message details to investigate further.
Common mistakes that prolong the problem
Testing only from the destination mailbox
That test exercises SimpleLogin’s loop-prevention rule rather than ordinary delivery. Always include a sender that is independent of the alias destination.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Checking only the inbox
Spam, junk, quarantine, archive folders and filters can hide a correctly delivered message. Search the whole mailbox before editing the alias.
Adding more forwarding
Each extra hop can alter headers and authentication results. Establish direct delivery first; add an additional route only when there is a clear operational reason.
Trying to fix the sender’s DNS as the recipient
DMARC failures originate in the sender’s authentication setup or policy. Give the sender the evidence it needs and ask its administrator to correct SPF, DKIM or DMARC.
Changing several variables at once
Replacing the mailbox, disabling filters and changing the sender simultaneously removes the evidence needed to identify the cause. Make one controlled change, then send a new uniquely identified test.
Recommended Free Tools
Prevent future alias-delivery surprises
- Keep each alias assigned to a mailbox you actively monitor.
- Complete mailbox verification immediately after adding a destination.
- Check that SimpleLogin service notifications are not being classified as spam.
- Prefer a direct mailbox over a mailbox that is itself an automatic-forwarding address.
- Keep a second, independent sender available for testing.
- Record alias changes and forwarding changes so a later failure has a clear timeline.
- When a sender changes its mail platform or domain, perform a fresh test instead of assuming the old authentication path still works.
Decision tree: what the result means
| Test result | Interpretation | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Self-sent message fails, independent sender succeeds | Expected self-alias loop prevention | Use an independent sender for testing; no repair is needed. |
| Independent sender appears in spam or another folder | Destination filtering | Correct the mailbox rule or allow-list, then retest. |
| SimpleLogin notification includes a downloadable message | SimpleLogin received the message but destination delivery failed | Save the download and investigate mailbox status, rejection details and forwarding. |
| Only one sender fails and quarantine is mentioned | Sender DMARC/SPF/DKIM policy is implicated | Ask the sender’s administrator to inspect authentication. |
| Direct mailbox works, forwarded destination fails | Forwarding-chain interference | Keep the direct destination or remove the unnecessary forwarding hop. |
| No sender works and the alias or mailbox is unverified | Configuration problem | Enable the alias, assign the intended mailbox and complete verification. |
When the alias is working but one message is still missing
A single missing message does not establish a permanent alias failure. Compare it with a uniquely identified message from another sender, then inspect the sender’s own delivery status and bounce notices. If the second message arrives, preserve the first message’s sender, subject and timestamp for the sender’s administrator; the difference may be a sender-policy or content-filtering decision rather than alias routing.
If repeated independent tests fail after you have a verified direct mailbox and no filtering rule explains the result, provide SimpleLogin support with the complete timeline and any notification download. That is more actionable than reporting only that “mail is missing.”
