If your Bose QuietComfort headphones won’t connect, first put them in Bluetooth pairing mode and select them from your phone or computer’s Bluetooth settings. If they have connected before, remove the saved headphone entry from both devices and pair again. For dropouts, test close to the source and with another Bluetooth device before trying a model-specific reset. Bose uses different steps for different QuietComfort models, so check your exact model before holding buttons or connecting a cable.

Identify your QuietComfort model and the connection problem

Find the model name in the Bose app, on the headphones, or in the manual. Bose publishes separate instructions for QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), QuietComfort Headphones sold from 2023, QuietComfort SE, and older QC35 and QC45 models. Button layouts and reset procedures can differ, so don’t assume instructions for one generation apply to another. See Bose’s QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) connection guidance, its pairing instructions, and the model support page.

  • Not discoverable: The headphones do not appear in the Bluetooth device list.
  • Paired but not connected: The headphones are saved on the source device but won’t establish a connection.
  • Wrong device connects: Another saved phone, tablet, or computer may be taking the connection.
  • Connection drops during use: Range, interference, multi-point connections, or the source device may be involved.

Pair Bose QuietComfort headphones for the first time

Put the headphones in pairing mode

For QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), slide the Power/Bluetooth switch toward the Bluetooth icon and hold it for three seconds. Wait for the discoverable tone and blinking blue status light, then select the headphones in the Bluetooth settings on your phone, tablet, or computer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For supported models, the Bose app’s pairing route is Source > Bluetooth > Add New. If the app cannot find the headphones, check that it has the Bluetooth permissions it requests. Pairing controls vary by model; use the applicable Bose pairing instructions rather than guessing at a button sequence.

Choose the correct Bluetooth entry

If you see both the headphone name and a duplicate entry labelled “LE,” select the headphone or speaker listing. Bose gives this guidance for Windows 10 pairing. If your device shows different entries, consult the instructions for your model and operating system.

Fix headphones that are paired but won’t connect

  1. Remove the saved headphone entry from the phone or computer’s Bluetooth settings. If duplicate entries appear, remove those too.
  2. Clear the headphones’ saved device list if your model supports it. On QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), hold the Power/Bluetooth switch forward for 15 seconds, until you hear the tone indicating the list has cleared. Bose’s guidance for the QuietComfort model sold from 2023 also calls for a 15-second hold to clear its device list.
  3. Restart the source device—such as your phone, tablet, computer, or TV—then put the headphones back in pairing mode.
  4. Pair again from the source device’s Bluetooth menu. Keep the headphones close by while connecting.

Clearing saved pairings is not the same as resetting the product. On QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), clearing the list removes saved Bluetooth devices; a product reset reboots the headphones and resets product controls without clearing device settings.

Stop QuietComfort headphones from disconnecting

Check range and obstacles

Bose recommends keeping the source within 33 feet (10 meters) of the headphones; walls, doors, appliances, and other obstacles can reduce the usable range. Move the source closer and see whether the connection becomes stable. If practical, compare performance in a less obstructed area.

Reduce wireless interference and test multi-point

For intermittent audio on QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), Bose recommends disconnecting nearby wireless devices and testing with multi-point switched off in the Bose app under Bluetooth Connections. These headphones can actively connect to two devices at once, but play audio from only one at a time. A second connected source may be relevant if audio switches unexpectedly or playback is interrupted; test with only the intended source connected.

Try another Bluetooth source

Connect the headphones to a second phone, tablet, or computer and compare the results at close range. If they work reliably there, focus on the original source device’s Bluetooth state, settings, app permissions, or operating system. If they also fail with another source, continue with the exact model’s Bose troubleshooting and reset guidance.

Disconnect an audio cable

If a backup audio cable is attached, unplug it before Bluetooth troubleshooting. On the documented QuietComfort model, connecting the audio cable disables Bluetooth. A charging cable is not a general fix for Bluetooth dropouts.

Reset only with the procedure for your exact model

Do not treat “reset” as one universal Bose procedure. Bose’s QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) product reset is separate from clearing saved Bluetooth pairings. For that model, Bose’s procedure is to connect USB-C to the right earcup, hold the Bluetooth/Power switch forward while connecting the other end to a USB-C power source, and release the switch after connection. The status light blinks white for three seconds when the reset completes. Follow the official 2nd Gen reset instructions and confirm your model before trying this sequence.

Bose describes this reset as rebooting the headphones and resetting product controls; it does not clear device settings. Other QuietComfort generations may have different reset or factory-restore steps. Use the instructions on the support page for your exact model rather than applying this USB-C procedure to another headset.

Check for a software update

For QuietComfort Headphones sold from 2023, Bose provides updates through the Bose app or Bose Updater on a computer. When transferring an update through the app, keep the headphones connected and within Bluetooth range. Bose says transfer can take up to 40 minutes and installation up to 15 minutes for that model. Those durations and update steps should not be assumed to apply to every QuietComfort generation. See Bose’s update guidance.

When to contact Bose support

If the headphones fail to pair or keep disconnecting with multiple source devices—even close to the source, with saved pairings cleared, and after the applicable model-specific steps—contact Bose support for that model. A reset cannot be assumed to fix a hardware fault. Tell support which sources you tested and whether the headphones were discoverable, connected briefly, or never connected.
