If Black Myth: Wukong keeps crashing, stuttering, or running at low FPS on PC, start by identifying when the problem occurs, then check your system against the game’s requirements. Remove mods and verify files if the issue followed a game update; use the game-version-specific shader and Compatible Mode guidance for launch problems; and change graphics settings one at a time for performance issues. These symptoms can have different causes, so no single setting is a guaranteed fix.
First, identify what is going wrong
“Crashing,” “stuttering,” and “low FPS” describe different problems. Note exactly when the issue appears before changing settings:
- Crash on launch: The game closes, freezes, or fails to open before gameplay.
- Crash during shader compilation: The failure happens while the game is preparing shaders, often before you reach gameplay.
- Stuttering: Gameplay pauses or hitches briefly, even if the average frame rate seems acceptable.
- Low FPS: The game runs slowly or consistently below your desired frame rate during play.
Also note whether the problem began after a game update, graphics-driver change, or mod installation, and whether ray tracing, frame generation, or super-resolution features are enabled. Those details help match the symptom to the relevant troubleshooting step.

Steam lists the following specifications for Black Myth: Wukong. Both the minimum and recommended figures were tested with DLSS, FSR, or XeSS enabled, so they should not be read as guarantees of a particular frame rate with those features off. Steam’s requirements listing also distinguishes storage expectations by tier.

Compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, DirectX support, and free storage with the relevant tier. Meeting minimum requirements does not establish that every graphics setting will run smoothly. If your PC falls below minimum, reduce settings and resolution before considering an upgrade; Steam’s list is an eligibility guide, not a benchmark or a promise of smooth performance.
Update the game and graphics driver
Check that the game is current and that your graphics driver is installed and functioning correctly. Game Science’s 2024 patch notes describe adding detection and an update prompt for Windows and graphics-driver versions. That is a reason to check for available updates, not evidence that the newest driver will be best for every PC. Record your game and driver versions so you can include them if you contact support.

If the problem started after installing mods or a patch
Temporarily remove mods and verify the game files through the platform where you installed the game. Game Science’s version 1.0.9.15179 notes warn that mods can cause compatibility issues after patches, including launch failures, problems loading saves, and gameplay errors; the notes recommend uninstalling mods and verifying file integrity before restarting. This advice applies when mods may be involved, not as a proven fix for unrelated hardware or driver faults.

- Disable or remove the mods you added.
- Use your game platform’s file-verification option to check the installation and replace missing or damaged files.
- Restart the game without mods and check whether the same issue occurs.
If Black Myth: Wukong crashes during shader compilation
Game Science’s version 1.0.20.21756 notes recommend restarting until shader compilation completes, or skipping shader compilation if crashes occur during compilation. The exact behavior and available options may depend on your installed game version. Check your version and the current in-game prompt before following this patch-specific guidance.
If the game crashes on launch
For launch problems associated with graphics features, try a simpler rendering configuration. The version 1.0.20.21756 notes describe Compatible Mode as a way to help avoid launch failures related to driver, hardware, or system abnormalities. They say it disables ray tracing, frame generation, and some super-resolution features. The same notes report a fix for a launch crash when DLSS 4 frame generation and ray tracing were both enabled.
If Compatible Mode is available in your installed version, try it. Otherwise, temporarily turn off ray tracing, frame generation, and super-resolution features, then relaunch. Change one feature at a time when possible so you can see which change affects the crash. The notes are version-specific; they do not establish that these settings cause every launch failure.

Check whether your PC meets the requirements, then make a small, reversible change and compare gameplay in the same area. Start by lowering resolution or graphics settings. If you use demanding features such as ray tracing, frame generation, or super-resolution, test them individually rather than changing several options at once.
- For consistently low FPS: Reduce resolution or graphics quality, then check whether performance improves. If it does, keep adjusting the settings that matter most to you.
- For brief stutters or hitching: Note when they occur and whether they began after a patch, driver change, or mod installation. The available official guidance does not identify one universal cause or confirm a single remedy for stuttering.
- For either symptom: Check for game and graphics-driver updates, but judge the result on your own system rather than assuming an update or preset will improve performance.
Game Science’s version 1.0.20.21756 notes describe CPU, rendering, and memory-use improvements in multiple scenarios, but do not publish a quantified FPS gain or universal performance target. Steam lists the RTX 2060 among its recommended graphics options; that specification alone does not make it a guaranteed fix for crashes, stuttering, or low FPS.
