If your Toshiba Fire TV won’t connect to Wi‑Fi, start with Settings > Network to check its status and signal, then restart the TV, reconnect to the network, and restart your modem and router. Save a factory reset for last. If the TV is still in initial setup, use the setup-specific steps below.
First, identify when the connection failed
A TV that has connected before and a TV that cannot connect during initial setup have slightly different recovery steps. If the problem started after changing your Wi‑Fi password or router, the TV may still have the old network credentials saved. If other devices are also offline, investigate the home network before assuming the television is at fault.
Fix Wi‑Fi on a Toshiba Fire TV that connected before
- Check the TV’s network status. Open Settings > Network, select the network, and press Play/Pause on the remote to open the connection check. Amazon says compatible Fire TV devices may also show a speed test or advanced network details. Toshiba’s manual for the MB481 UK model family says its network page shows the strongest three networks, connection status, signal strength, and security details.
- Restart the TV. Unplug it from power for 10 seconds, then reconnect it. If the problem occurs during initial setup, Amazon’s setup instructions call for leaving the Fire TV unplugged for one minute instead.
- Turn Wi‑Fi off and back on. In Settings > Network, toggle Wi‑Fi off and on. On the Toshiba model covered by the manual, check that Enable Wi‑Fi/Ethernet is on.
- Forget and rejoin the network. Highlight your network, press Menu/Options on the remote, and choose the option to forget it. Select the network again and enter the current password carefully. This is especially useful if you recently changed the router password.
- Restart your modem and router. Unplug both devices and wait one minute. Plug in the modem first; give it about a minute to reconnect to the internet. Then plug in the router and wait about a minute for it to reconnect. Amazon gives this order in its Fire TV Wi‑Fi troubleshooting instructions.
- Check signal and try a wired connection if supported. Move the router and TV closer if practical. If your exact TV model has a LAN port, connecting it to the router with an Ethernet cable can help distinguish a Wi‑Fi problem from a broader connection problem, or provide a temporary workaround. Some Fire TV devices need an Ethernet adapter; do not buy one or assume the TV has a LAN port without checking its model label and manual.
- Factory reset only if the other steps fail. A reset returns the TV to its initial state and requires setup again. Use the instructions for your exact Toshiba model rather than a generic reset sequence; Amazon links to separate Fire TV Smart TV reset instructions.
If your Toshiba Fire TV cannot find the Wi‑Fi network
If the network name (SSID) is missing from the list, first check whether Ethernet is plugged in and whether wireless connectivity is enabled. Toshiba’s MB481 UK manual says wireless networks are not listed when Ethernet is connected or Enable Wi‑Fi/Ethernet is off.

- Disconnect Ethernet if it is connected and you want to use Wi‑Fi.
- Confirm that Enable Wi‑Fi/Ethernet is on, if your menu has that setting.
- Choose See All Networks and rescan. Toshiba’s manual also describes manually joining a hidden network through Join Other Network.
- If you are still in the initial setup screen, press Back to refresh the network list.
Menu labels and available options can vary by model. The Toshiba instructions cited here cover the MB481 UK model family, not every Toshiba Fire TV.

If the TV says it is connected but there is no internet
A Wi‑Fi connection only confirms that the TV has joined the wireless network; it does not by itself establish that the router has internet access. Run the network check from Settings > Network if available, and see whether other devices can get online.
- Several devices are offline: Restart the modem and router in that order. If they still cannot connect, the problem may be with the home network or internet provider.
- Only the TV is affected: Check the TV’s signal strength and network status, then forget and rejoin the network.
- Wi‑Fi works but streaming buffers: A weak signal at the TV is one possibility. Moving the router closer or testing a supported Ethernet connection can help narrow it down.
When to contact support
If the ordered checks do not restore the connection, contact Toshiba or Amazon support with the TV’s exact model number and a description of the network status shown on screen. These steps do not establish that an internal Wi‑Fi component has failed, so avoid diagnosing or attempting to repair a hardware fault based on connection symptoms alone. The model number also matters before buying an Ethernet adapter or cable, because Toshiba Fire TV models do not all have the same documented ports.
