If your Samsung phone keeps returning to One UI Home, first check whether it has actually changed the default Home app or whether your chosen launcher is crashing and reloading. Go to Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Home app and select your launcher. If it is already selected, check whether Samsung has put it to sleep. These steps address common possibilities, but there is no single confirmed cause for every launcher reset.
First identify what is resetting
Watch what happens when the problem occurs. If Samsung’s One UI Home appears and stays on screen, check which Home app is selected. If your third-party launcher remains selected but its screen disappears and reloads, that points to a crash or restart rather than a changed default. The two symptoms can look alike, but they call for different checks.
Choose your launcher as the Home app
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps > Choose default apps > Home app.
- Select the third-party launcher you want to use.

Check whether the launcher is sleeping
Samsung’s background limits can restrict apps that are put into Sleeping or Deep sleeping states. Check the launcher before changing other settings:

- Open Settings > Device care > Battery > Background usage limits.
- Look under Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps for your launcher.
- If it appears there, consider removing it from that list or adding it under Never sleeping apps, then observe whether the behavior changes.
Samsung says background apps unused for about three days and associated with poor system health may be put into Sleeping mode. That is a reason to inspect the setting, not proof that it causes every launcher reset. Menu names can vary by version. Samsung Developer: App management
Reset app preferences only if the documented condition fits
Samsung describes a Home Launcher restart issue after One UI 6.1.1 that may occur when certain system apps have been disabled through developer mode or a disabler app. For that particular situation, Samsung recommends resetting app preferences:

- Open Settings > Apps.
- Tap More options (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Reset app preferences and confirm.
This resets some defaults, notification settings, and permission restrictions. Samsung says existing app data is not affected. Because the action changes multiple settings, use it when the disabled-system-app condition fits rather than as a first step for every launcher problem. Samsung Support: Home Launcher keeps stopping
Update the launcher and note when the problem began
Check for an update to the launcher in the app store where you installed it, and check for a phone software update through Settings. If the resets began after an update or after disabling a system component, note that timing. If it still happens, gather details before escalating
When the steps above do not fit or change the behavior, record the information that can help distinguish a default-selection change from a crash:
- Samsung phone model and Android/One UI version
- Launcher name and version
- Whether One UI Home becomes the selected Home app, or the third-party launcher simply reloads
- Whether it happens after reboot, after an update, or at another identifiable time
- Any system apps disabled through developer options or a disabler app
The available Samsung guidance does not establish a universal cause or a guaranteed fix for every third-party launcher. Avoid treating a reinstall, data clear, gesture change, or factory reset as a proven remedy. If you choose a reset or reinstall as a later diagnostic step, first preserve your launcher layout and configuration.
