If a PlayStation Store purchase will not download or install, first retry the stalled item from the console’s download queue. If the game is missing from your library or shows a lock, check the purchasing account and transaction history before downloading again or buying it again. Then check PlayStation service status, your connection, system software, and available storage. These checks distinguish a failed download from an account, license, or capacity problem.
Retry the stalled download
A pause-and-resume can restart a stalled queue item. If that does not work, cancel and delete the failed queue entry, then start the download again from your library. This clears the queue item; it does not fix an ownership, license, or PlayStation service issue.

On PS5
- Open Downloads/Uploads in Control Center.
- Select the affected download, then choose Pause and Resume.
- If it remains stuck, choose Cancel and Delete.
- Open Game Library, find the title, and start the download again.
On PS4
- Open Notifications > Downloads.
- Select the affected item and pause, then resume it.
- If it still will not progress, cancel and delete the item.
- Find the title in your library and retry the download.
Sony’s download troubleshooting guide covers these queue steps. If the title is not available to download again, check your account and purchase entitlement before repeating the queue steps.

Check the purchase and the account
If a purchase is absent from the library or appears locked, verify that the console is signed in to the account that bought it. Check that account’s transaction history to confirm the purchase and avoid paying for the title again while ownership is unclear.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
- Check library filters and hidden-game settings in case the title is being concealed.
- If access comes through PlayStation Plus, confirm the subscription is active and the title is still available through the relevant subscription offering.
- If another account owns the game, check the applicable sharing setting: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5 or primary-console activation on PS4.
A confirmed transaction and a progressing download are different questions: the transaction confirms the account’s purchase history, while the queue shows whether the console is transferring the game.
Restore licenses if a valid purchase is locked or missing
Sony says restoring licenses will not affect your data. It can help when a purchased game has a padlock, a game or add-on cannot be located, or a game crashes. A lock caused by an expired PlayStation Plus subscription is an exception: restoring licenses does not renew the subscription or restore access to a title that is no longer included.

Check PlayStation service status. If Sony reports a service alert, wait until the affected service recovers before retrying; repeated queue resets will not resolve an outage.

If there is no reported service issue, test the console’s internet connection in its network settings. If the test fails, follow Sony’s connection and download troubleshooting steps. A working internet connection does not by itself prove that the purchase is licensed, so use the account and license checks above when the game is missing or locked.
Install system software and follow the exact error code
Install the latest system software if it is available, particularly when the displayed error guidance calls for an update. Error codes can point to different causes, so use Sony’s steps for the exact code shown rather than applying a generic fix.

PS5 error CE-112987-8
Sony’s guidance for this code is to update system software, delete the affected download and try again, sign out and back in, restart the console, and restore licenses. If the issue persists, Sony advises trying again later. See Sony’s CE-112987-8 guidance.
Other codes
Look up the full code in Sony’s error-code directory. The recommended steps vary across download, installation, license, network, and storage errors.

Check free storage before changing drives
Compare the available space on the console with the title’s minimum requirement in its product details. On PS5, check capacity under Settings > Storage. For error CE-107872-5, Sony says the console may need approximately twice the free space required to install the data; this is Sony’s guidance for that error, not a universal rule for every game or system.
If space is insufficient, free capacity by deleting or moving content, or consider extended storage where supported. Confirm that the drive and the intended use are compatible with your console before buying one. Storage cannot resolve a license, account, service-status, or network problem. See Sony’s CE-107872-5 storage guidance.
When to contact PlayStation Support
If the download still fails after the relevant account, queue, service, connection, software, and storage checks, contact PlayStation Support. Include the exact error code and message, the steps that reproduce the problem, and a screenshot or video if possible. For download issues, note when you attempted the download.
Leave more disruptive recovery steps for later. Sony’s game-start guidance includes Safe Mode database rebuilding, while reinstalling system software is substantially more disruptive. Back up your data and follow Sony’s instructions if Support directs you to those steps; see Sony’s game-start troubleshooting guidance.
