If your Fire TV Stick 4K will not connect to Wi-Fi, use the on-screen Network Diagnostics first, then try reversible fixes such as restarting the Stick, toggling Wi-Fi, and forgetting and rejoining the network. If the network is missing during initial setup, refresh the list with Back before restarting your equipment. Save a factory reset for last.
Start with Network Diagnostics
If you see an “Unable to Connect” message, choose Network Diagnostics. You can also open it from Settings > Network by pressing Play/Pause on the remote. Follow the recommendation shown on screen. Amazon’s Network Status tool checks two links: Fire TV to router, and router to internet. That distinction can help show whether the Stick is failing to join your Wi-Fi or the router itself lacks internet access. Some compatible Fire TV devices also show a speed test and advanced network information.
If the Fire TV Stick 4K used to connect
- Restart the Stick. Unplug its power, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect it. Wait for startup and try the network again.
- Toggle Wi-Fi. Go to Settings > Network, turn Wi-Fi off, then turn it back on and select your network.
- Forget and rejoin the saved network. In Settings > Network, select the saved network. Press Menu and then Select/OK to forget it. Select the network again and enter the password carefully.
- Restart the modem and router in order. Unplug both devices for one minute. Reconnect the modem first and allow about a minute for internet service to return; then reconnect the router and allow about a minute for it to restart. Try connecting the Stick again.
- Check distance and whether other devices are affected. Move the Stick or router closer if practical. If several devices cannot get online, check whether your internet service or home network is down before treating the Stick as the only problem.
- Factory reset only if the earlier steps fail. A reset can remove device settings and require setup again, so do not start with it. Use the reset option on the Fire TV only after diagnostics, restarts, and reconnecting have not helped. Amazon’s troubleshooting sequence places factory reset after the other checks.
If the network does not appear during setup
- Have the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password ready, then wait for the available-network list to load.
- If your network is missing, press Back on the remote to refresh the list. Select the network if it appears and try connecting.
- If it still does not appear, unplug the Fire TV power adapter for one minute, then reconnect it.
- Restart the modem and router: reconnect the modem first and wait for its internet connection, then reconnect the router. Return to the network list and try again.
- If available, Ethernet is another way to connect during setup, but some Fire TV devices need an Ethernet adapter. Verify that an adapter supports your exact Stick model before buying. Amazon’s setup guidance notes that the adapter requirement varies by device.
Amazon’s separate setup pages for the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd generation) and Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd generation) direct connection problems to the dedicated setup troubleshooting steps. Check which generation you own before following device-specific directions or selecting an accessory.
When to consider Ethernet or better coverage
A wired connection can be a useful alternative when Wi-Fi coverage is unreliable, but it is not a guaranteed fix for every connection problem. Amazon recommends moving closer to the router or using a wired connection with an Ethernet adapter for 4K playback issues; check exact-model compatibility before purchasing because compatibility for every Stick 4K generation is not established in the cited guidance. See Amazon’s 4K playback guidance.

Consider coverage changes only if the problem points to weak signal or affects parts of your home. Amazon suggests mesh routers for larger homes. For Fire TV devices that support Wi-Fi 6E, Amazon says a Wi-Fi 6E-or-higher-capable router can provide the best performance; this is not a prerequisite for ordinary Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Amazon also recommends using the same network name (SSID) across 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands so a supported device can connect to a band it can use based on signal strength. These options address coverage or performance, not every failure to join a network. See Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
