Troubleshoot Wi-Fi and Alexa separately: use the Cube’s network tools for connection problems, and check its light, microphone mute status, and audio output when Alexa seems unresponsive. Work through the reversible steps first; a factory reset removes account information and downloaded content.
First, identify which problem you have
A Wi-Fi failure and an Alexa response problem can have different causes. Start with the symptom you can observe rather than assuming one explains the other.
- Wi-Fi: Open Settings > Network and use Network Diagnostics or the network tools. Amazon’s Network Status tool can help distinguish a Fire TV-to-router connection issue from a router-to-internet issue and may offer recommendations. If other devices in your home also lack internet, check for a wider network or service outage.
- Alexa: Say the wake word and watch the Cube’s light. Whether it lights helps determine whether the issue is voice pickup or an audible response routed elsewhere.
Fix a Fire TV Cube that won’t connect to Wi-Fi
For a Cube that has already been set up, try Amazon’s troubleshooting steps in this order.
- Run Network Diagnostics and follow any on-screen recommendations.
- Unplug the Cube from power for 10 seconds, then reconnect it.
- If the network still will not connect or does not appear, go to Settings > Network and turn Wi-Fi off, then back on.
- Forget the network, select it again, and enter the correct Wi-Fi password.
- If the problem continues, restart the modem and router: unplug both for one minute, reconnect the modem, and wait about one minute for its internet connection. Then reconnect the router and wait about one minute for it to come online.
- Move the Cube and router closer together if possible. If other household devices are also offline, check whether your internet service or home network is down.
For a problem during first-time setup, have your Wi-Fi name and password ready. If your network is missing from the list, press Back on the Fire TV remote to refresh it. Restart the Fire TV and networking equipment, move them closer, and try Ethernet if available. Amazon notes that some Fire TV devices need an Ethernet adapter, but its setup guidance does not establish adapter compatibility with the Cube.

Fix a Fire TV Cube that doesn’t respond to Alexa
The Cube does not light up
Move the Cube out of an enclosed space and confirm it has power. Then press the Cube’s Action button and speak your request. If using the wake word, make sure the Cube’s microphones have not been disabled with the Mute button on top; Amazon says the button lights red when the microphones are deactivated.
The Cube lights up, but you cannot hear Alexa
The response may be going to a powered-off TV or soundbar rather than the Cube. Say “I can’t hear you.” Amazon says this routes Alexa’s response to the Cube. You can also raise the Cube’s volume with its + button.

Check voice history in the Alexa app to see what Alexa heard. If the request was misunderstood, try different wording. You can also use the wake word or press and hold the remote’s Voice button to talk to Alexa. The remote’s Voice button does not support voice-navigation commands or onscreen selections.

Amazon lists two Cube-specific restart options: unplug the device temporarily, or hold the Action button for 10 seconds to shut it off, then press the button again to restart it.

Use a factory reset only after simpler checks fail. You can either hold Volume Down and Mute until the light flashes blue (about 40 seconds), or select Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults. A factory reset deletes account information and downloaded content.

If repositioning the Cube and router points to weak coverage—particularly in a larger home—Amazon suggests mesh routers as a possible whole-home coverage option. A mesh system is not a guaranteed fix for a Cube connection failure; diagnose the connection and try the steps above first.
