Start by identifying whether your XPS 13 has Wi-Fi switched off, cannot see networks, cannot join one network, or connects without internet. Then work through the reversible checks below before changing drivers or firmware. XPS 13 generations use different hardware, so choose any driver or BIOS update through Dell Support using your Service Tag or exact model—not a generic wireless-driver download.
First, identify what is failing
Check whether other devices can connect to the same Wi-Fi network and reach the internet. If possible, try the XPS 13 on another known-working network. These checks help separate a laptop problem from a router or internet-service problem.
- No networks appear: Check the wireless radio, Windows adapter visibility, driver, and hardware.
- Networks appear, but the XPS 13 cannot join one: Verify the network name and password, then test another network to narrow down whether the issue is specific to that network.
- The XPS 13 joins Wi-Fi, but websites do not load: Check whether other devices have internet access. The issue may involve the internet connection, DNS, or network configuration rather than Wi-Fi association.
Dell’s general guide covers Windows 10 and 11 and is not specific to one XPS 13 model. Its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide includes symptoms such as “cannot connect to this network” and “wireless Internet not working.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTry the low-risk fixes first
- Check Airplane mode and Wi-Fi separately. Turn Airplane mode off, then confirm Wi-Fi itself is turned on in Windows. Dell notes that turning off Airplane mode does not automatically enable Wi-Fi.
- Restart the laptop and router. Restart the XPS 13, then restart the router if you can do so safely and without disrupting other users.
- Forget and rejoin the network. In Windows, open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select the affected network, choose Forget, and reconnect with the correct password. Settings labels can vary slightly by Windows version.
- Run a troubleshooter. Use Windows’ network troubleshooter, or Dell SupportAssist’s Wi-Fi troubleshooter if it is available on your system. Dell includes these in its basic troubleshooting guidance.
- Consider recent software changes. If the problem began after installing or updating a VPN, security tool, or network-management application, note that change before proceeding to advanced diagnostics. Dell identifies these software categories as possible sources of conflicts.
Get the correct Dell driver and BIOS for your XPS 13
If the basic checks fail, identify the exact XPS 13 and Windows version before updating anything. Visit Dell Support, enter the laptop’s Service Tag or select its exact model, and choose the installed Windows version. Then review the model-specific wireless driver and BIOS updates offered for that system. Do not assume every XPS 13 uses the same wireless card or driver.

Dell’s XPS 13 Plus 9320/XPS 9320 re-imaging guide, for example, lists WLAN and Bluetooth drivers for that model family. It does not establish which adapter or driver belongs on other XPS 13 generations.
If the laptop is offline
Dell recommends connecting the computer to the router with a network cable to download updates, or downloading the needed files on another device and transferring them by USB flash drive. If the XPS 13 has no Ethernet port, a compatible USB-C-to-Ethernet adapter may be needed; check the exact model’s ports and adapter compatibility. This is a way to get online for downloads, not a repair for the wireless connection itself.

If reinstalling the existing wireless driver
Dell says Windows can reinstall the existing wireless driver after you uninstall the adapter in Device Manager and restart. This may remove saved Wi-Fi networks. For this offline reinstall procedure, follow Dell’s warning not to select the option to remove the driver package; otherwise, Windows may not have the package available to reinstall automatically. See Dell’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance for its procedure.

If Wi-Fi is missing from Windows or cannot be enabled, check whether the wireless adapter is disabled in BIOS/UEFI. Menu names and navigation can differ by model; use the manual for your system if they do.

You can also run Dell’s preboot diagnostics: press F12 during startup, open Diagnostics, and select the network test if it is offered. A failed wireless hardware test may indicate that the adapter needs repair or replacement; symptoms alone do not prove hardware failure. If the test passes, continue investigating Windows settings, drivers, and the router.
Use advanced network changes only if the basics fail
Dell’s advanced troubleshooting includes checking adapter power settings, resetting the network, testing DNS, restarting WLAN AutoConfig, performing a clean boot, and generating a wireless report. These steps can change settings or affect other network software, so work through them one at a time and check whether each change resolves the problem before proceeding.

Disabling IPv6 is a diagnostic test, not a routine fix. Dell says IPv6 should generally remain enabled for optimal network functionality. If a temporary IPv6 test does not isolate the issue, restore IPv6 rather than leaving it disabled.
When to contact Dell
Contact Dell Support or arrange service if the exact-model diagnostics report a wireless hardware failure, or if the adapter remains unavailable after confirming WLAN is enabled and installing the correct model-specific software. Keep the diagnostic result and Service Tag available when seeking help.
