To find a misplaced Samsung Galaxy phone, open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find on another device, sign in with the Samsung account registered on the missing phone, select the phone, and check its map location. Choose Ring if it is probably nearby; if theft is possible, secure the phone and contact authorities rather than going to the map location yourself. What you can see depends on settings enabled before the phone went missing, its power and network status, and whether offline finding is available.
Find your phone with Samsung Find or SmartThings Find
- On another browser or Galaxy device, open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find.
- Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the missing phone.
- Select the phone from the device list and check the map for its reported location.
- Choose an action based on whether you think the phone is nearby, moving, or at risk of unauthorized access.
Samsung’s US support guide lists a powered-on phone, a stable network connection, a Samsung account on the device, and remote controls enabled among the requirements for its phone and tablet location flow. If the phone is off, Samsung says only its last known location is available; a map pin should not be treated as a live location in that situation.
Choose the right action for the situation

| Recovery seems unlikely and data is at risk | Erase data | Erasure removes the phone’s data. Samsung advises backing up before resetting; consider whether you have a backup before choosing this action. |
Samsung Find also offers found-device notifications. Use tracking or notifications to support a safe recovery, not to approach someone who may have stolen the phone.
If the phone is offline or switched off
Samsung’s Offline finding feature can use nearby Galaxy devices as Find Nodes: participating devices can detect a Galaxy phone with Offline finding enabled and relay a location signal to Samsung’s server, even when the missing phone’s mobile data is disconnected. This is an assisted-location option, not a promise of a precise or current position. Its usefulness depends on settings, nearby participating Galaxy devices, and regional or carrier availability. Offline finding and a powered-off phone are not the same case. Samsung’s US guide says that when a device is powered off, only its last known location is available. If the map does not show a current position, it may not be possible to establish where the phone is now.
Check the settings that make future recovery possible
Samsung’s current US instructions give this path on supported devices: Settings → Security and privacy → Lost device protection. Turn on these options:

Samsung says the find setting is normally enabled by default when a Samsung account is added, but it is worth checking while you still have the phone. Do not go directly to the location shown on the map. Samsung Support explicitly advises: “If you are using SmartThings Find or Samsung Find to locate a stolen phone or tablet, do not go directly to the location on the map.” Inform the authorities and let them retrieve the device. You can also contact your carrier to ask about any available location assistance or suspending service.

If you are concerned that someone could access accounts on the phone and remote erasure is unavailable, change passwords for accounts used on it. Samsung says changing the Samsung account password signs devices using that account out. Use Lock while deciding whether recovery is still realistic; erase only when you have weighed the loss of data and your backup situation.

- It was not prepared in advance: the Samsung account and relevant remote-control or lost-device settings need to be associated with the phone.
- It is powered off: Samsung’s US guide makes only the last known location available for a powered-off device.
- It cannot report over a stable connection: Samsung lists a stable network among requirements for its standard location flow.
- Offline finding cannot get a relay: the feature depends on nearby participating Galaxy devices and can vary by region or carrier.
- Its reported position is not a guarantee of recovery: tracking updates and offline relays have conditions and should not be read as certainty about the phone’s current location.
If Samsung’s service cannot locate the phone, contact your carrier about available help and suspend service if appropriate. Secure accounts on the device if you are concerned about unauthorized access.
