Nike says Air Force 1s generally run big because of their roomy toe box. As a starting point, consider going half a size below your usual Nike shoe size for a snugger fit. If you have wide feet or prefer more room, start with your usual Nike size instead. The right choice can vary by edition, so check the specific shoe’s Size & Fit notes before buying.
Choose your starting size by the fit you want
Nike’s guidance is relative to your usual Nike shoe size, not a universal size conversion. For example, if your usual Nike size is 9, Nike gives 8.5 as an example of going half a size down for an Air Force 1.
| What you want | Where to start | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Snugger, more secure fit | Consider half a size below your usual Nike size. | Nike says this can feel snug at first. Leather styles can become roomier as they break in. |
| Relaxed fit or more toe room | Start with your usual Nike size. | The roomy toe box may be more prone to creasing, according to Nike. |
| Wide feet | Use your usual Nike size as a starting point. | Nike says wide-footed shoppers do not need to size down; check the exact edition’s fit notes. |
| Relaxed slip-on feel | Nike mentions trying a full size down. | This is a preference-specific tip intended to reduce foot and heel movement, not the standard sizing recommendation. |
Nike’s general guide was last updated November 1, 2024. Its advice is a starting point rather than a guarantee for every Air Force 1. Read Nike’s Air Force 1 sizing guide.
Check the exact Air Force 1 edition
Air Force 1 models and editions can fit differently. Nike points to differences in upper materials or midsoles as possible reasons, and recommends reading the “Size & Fit” notes on the product page for the shoe you plan to buy. Mid and low styles, as well as your personal fit preference, can also affect what feels right.
#1 Best Overall
- Made with at least 20% recycled material by weight.

- Padded, low-cut collar looks sleek and feels great while the perforations on the toe and sides add comfort and breathability.
- DH2987-101
Leather styles may feel snug initially and become roomier with wear, according to Nike. Do not assume that break-in will resolve a fit that is already uncomfortable; use the product-specific guidance and your comfort as the deciding factors.
Fine-tune the fit without forcing the size
- If you are between sizes: Nike suggests that some people may prefer thicker socks with the larger shoe. This can change how snug the shoe feels, but it is not a substitute for choosing a comfortable size.
- If the shoe feels slightly loose: Nike says an insole can make it feel snugger. Treat this as a fit adjustment, not a fix for a shoe that is fundamentally the wrong size.
- If the sides crease: Avoid over-tightening the laces; Nike says this can create excess creasing along the sides.
Use Nike’s size chart for measurements and conversions
Nike’s Air Force 1 guide gives relative sizing advice and an example, but it does not provide a foot-measurement procedure or a universal regional conversion table. Use the sizing chart for your market and the Size & Fit note on the exact product page rather than assuming a conversion. Nike also provides a Switzerland-specific guide at nike.com/ch/en/a/air-force-1-sizing/.
