To find a series that feels like one you already enjoy, search for more than its genre: describe the balance of comedy and drama, then identify what makes its team or ensemble work. Use recommendations to build a shortlist, compare the shows on those dimensions, and check streaming availability for your region last.
Start with the comedy-and-drama balance
“Dramedy” is a useful starting search term for TV series that mix comedy and drama. JustWatch’s dramedy guide offers a category page for discovering shows in that broad blend.
The label does not tell you how a particular series balances the two. Before searching, decide whether you want jokes to lead, substantial emotional stakes, or a story that shifts between funny and serious moments. That distinction helps you judge whether a recommendation matches the viewing experience you want, rather than merely sharing a genre tag.

Comedy and drama labels say little about why an ensemble appeals to you. Write down what the group actually does and how its relationships develop. For example, consider whether you prefer:
#1 Best Overall
- Colleagues solving problems together.
- Friends or family facing a shared challenge.
- A close-knit ensemble whose members rely on one another.
- A group that starts with friction and gradually earns trust.
These are prompts for refining a search, not guarantees that a show will suit every viewer. A series can have a strong ensemble without making teamwork central to its stories, so check whether the group dynamic is a main attraction or just part of the setting.
Build a shortlist using two recommendation routes
Use both title-based similarity and personalized recommendations when available. They answer different questions: one starts from a show you name, while the other draws on your viewing activity.
Use “More Like This” for a reference title
IMDb says its “More Like This” suggestions consider information including genres, country of origin, and actors. The results can vary by device, and newer titles may take time to appear while IMDb gathers more information. Treat the list as a source of candidates, not a definitive ranking or a promise of identical tone. See IMDb’s explanation of “More Like This”.
Use personalized picks to reflect your broader taste
IMDb describes its Top Picks as personalized recommendations based on a viewer’s ratings and watchlist activity, compared with ratings from people who have similar tastes. This can surface options beyond a single reference show. If you have rated or saved very few titles, those signals may be limited. IMDb explains its recommendation features in its What to Watch FAQ.
Compare candidates before you commit
For each shortlisted series, check the features that define your ideal next watch. A shared comedy-and-drama category is only a starting point.
- Tone: Does comedy dominate, do emotional storylines carry substantial weight, or does the series move between the two?
- Team role: Does the group drive the story, or is the teamwork incidental?
- Relationships and setting: Is the team made up of friends, relatives, or colleagues, and does that setting appeal to you?
- Story structure: Does the show tell mostly self-contained episodes, build a longer serialized story, or combine both?
- Availability: Can you watch it through a service you already use in your region?
Comparing the same dimensions across several options makes it easier to spot a close match—and to see where a promising recommendation differs from the show you had in mind.

Check streaming availability for your region
Once you have candidates, use the provider filter in the JustWatch US TV guide to narrow results to services you can access. Its guide also includes filters such as genre, release year, price, and IMDb rating. The catalog is market-specific and can change, so confirm the current listing for your region before deciding what to watch.
