You don’t have to wait for a Steam seasonal sale to find a discount. Wishlist games on Steam and enable notifications, then use SteamDB or IsThereAnyDeal to spot current offers and check whether a price is low for that game’s history. Publishers choose when and how much to discount; no calendar or tracker can promise the next markdown.

Get Steam’s own sale notifications

  1. Add the game to your Steam Wishlist. Open the game’s Steam store page and select Add to your wishlist.
  2. Enable notifications. In Steam, open your account’s notification preferences and turn on email or mobile-app notifications for wishlist items on sale. Steam says it sends alerts for specified deal types, including Daily Deals, Midweek Deals, and Weekend Deals; this is a useful official baseline, not a guarantee of an alert for every discount. See Steam’s Wishlist Notifications page and Steam Support’s sales FAQ.

Steam’s notifications are the simplest option if you want to buy only on Steam. You can also keep a separate list or use a deal tracker when you want more control over the price that triggers an alert.

Find current discounts with SteamDB

SteamDB’s discounted-games page lets you browse ongoing Steam discounts and filter by criteria such as price, discount percentage, tags, features, and release date. It can also filter around games on your wishlist or that you follow. That makes it useful when you want to find something to play, rather than check only one title. Start at SteamDB’s price tracker.

Check the game’s price history

Open a game’s SteamDB page and look at its price table and history graph. SteamDB’s browser extension can also display recorded low-price information on Steam store pages. Use this to judge today’s price against that game’s own past prices: a large discount badge alone does not establish that the current price is its lowest or best price. SteamDB explains its tracking and limitations in its FAQ.

  • This Visa Virtual eGift Card is non-reloadable. No cash or ATM access. Visa Virtual eGift Cards are emailed active.
  • Funds do not expire but your Visa Virtual eGift Card has a ‘valid thru’ date (9 years from date of purchase). If funds remain after this date has passed, please call the Toll Free number found on your Visa Virtual eGift Card for a replacement card. A one-time purchase fee applies at the time of checkout.
  • This item is not eligible for refund, resale, or return. Available for sale within the United States only. Not available to residents of Puerto Rico, Hawaii, New Mexico, South Dakota, West Virginia and the US Virgin Islands.

Set a price alert with IsThereAnyDeal

IsThereAnyDeal offers game price-history pages, a waitlist, and configurable notification rules. You can import a Steam Wishlist and choose to be notified only when a deal meets your rules. This takes more setup than relying on Steam’s built-in alerts, but it is helpful if you have a target price in mind. See IsThereAnyDeal’s welcome guide.

For any tracker, compare prices in the region and currency you can actually use. A price shown for another region may not be available to you, and price histories are meaningful only when the region matches your comparison.

Decide whether to buy now or wait

  1. Choose your limit. Decide what the game is worth to you before a discount badge tempts you to spend more than planned.
  2. Check the current regional price. Make sure the displayed currency and store region match the account you will use.
  3. Compare the price history. Look at the recorded prices for that same game and region, rather than judging the deal by the advertised percentage alone.
  4. Buy when the price and timing work for you. If the current price meets your budget and you want to play now, you need not wait for a larger event. If not, keep the alert active; a future discount is possible, but its timing and size are not assured.

There is no universal “good deal” discount threshold. A price that is attractive depends on the game, its past prices, your budget, and how soon you want to play. SteamDB notes that publishers control the discounts and can choose their amounts; past sale patterns are not a promise of a future price.

Keep themed events in perspective

Steam runs themed events as well as broad seasonal sales, so they can be another time to browse discounts between the largest catalog-wide promotions. But an event focused on a genre or theme does not guarantee that a specific wishlisted game will be included. PC Gamer’s sale calendar, updated September 30, 2026, lists both types of events; check it for current dates rather than relying on an old calendar.

Steam plans to personalize portions of its Discounts & Events discovery experience in 2027, according to PC Gamer’s September 29, 2026 report. That is a change to how games are surfaced, not evidence that Steam prices will be dynamically set for individual users.
