For local emergency and evacuation instructions in the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), start with the latest official CNMI Governor’s Office or Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) bulletin and Joint Information Center (JIC) updates. For weather watches, warnings, and advisories, check the National Weather Service (NWS) Guam active hazards page. If internet access is limited, NWS Guam lists NOAA Weather Radio service for Saipan and a telephone recording at 211 for Guam and the CNMI.
Use a notice for your island and the current incident: evacuation directions, shelter availability, transport, and contact numbers can change. An older bulletin is not a safe substitute for a current instruction.
Where to get official CNMI emergency updates
CNMI Governor’s Office and HSEM bulletins
Check the CNMI Governor’s official bulletin archive for emergency and recovery notices. Read each notice’s date, island, and incident carefully; older bulletins may describe arrangements that are no longer active. The archive also points readers to official JIC media channels and has cautioned the public about misinformation.

During a response, the JIC coordinates public information. The Tinian Mayor’s official page identifies the JIC WhatsApp channel as a source for verified updates, weather advisories, emergency instructions, and evacuation information. Follow the channel through the link in the official municipal notice, and enable notifications if useful. Confirm that a message comes from an official account before forwarding it.

How to check weather hazards for the Marianas
Use the NWS Guam active hazards page for weather watches, warnings, and advisories. Select the relevant Marianas island and recheck the live page because hazard status can change. NWS weather information is not a shelter directory or a replacement for local evacuation instructions.
How to get alerts if internet access is unreliable
| Route | What it offers | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| NOAA Weather Radio | NWS Guam lists Saipan transmitter WXM-86 on 162.550 MHz. A compatible radio can provide a broadcast route to weather information. | The listed transmitter detail is specific to Saipan; the source does not establish reception conditions across every island. |
| Telephone recording | NWS Guam lists 211 for recorded information in Guam and the CNMI. | Confirm what the recording provides when you call; the available information may vary. |
| Official bulletins and JIC channels | Local notices can provide island-specific emergency and evacuation instructions. | Online and messaging updates depend on connectivity and must be checked for date and island scope. |
For Northern Islands residents, communication procedures may differ from those used on Saipan, Tinian, or Rota. A dated HSEM storm bulletin directed users to contact EOC dispatch by high-frequency single-sideband radio on 5.205.0; treat that as a historical example only, not a current instruction. Check the latest HSEM notice for current procedures.

Where to find evacuation and shelter directions
Follow the latest official notice for your island and situation. Do not use a general web article or an old shelter list to decide whether or where to evacuate. The official sources cited here do not establish a current, comprehensive shelter directory or island-by-island transport list, so check current HSEM/EOC notices for shelter availability, transport arrangements, and contact details.
A 2024 HSEM update described a Saipan arrangement in which people needing transport to designated shelters could call the HSEM State Warning Point at 670-237-8000. That was an incident-specific arrangement, not a guarantee that the number or service is active for a later emergency. Use the latest official bulletin for current assistance information.

How to judge whether an alert is reliable
- Prefer CNMI government, HSEM, JIC, and NWS channels over reposts or screenshots.
- Check the notice’s publication time, island, and incident, then look for a newer update or correction.
- Verify that a social or messaging post originates from an official account before sharing it.
- Follow active evacuation instructions from CNMI authorities; a weather page or radio broadcast does not replace a local evacuation order.
The CNMI Joint Information Center has warned: “The public is informed to be aware of false information and rumors that may be spreading.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Prepare more than one way to receive information
CNMI storm bulletins advise households to keep a preparedness kit with first-aid supplies, batteries, flashlights, toiletries, and a portable stove, and to stock food and water. A battery-powered NOAA Weather Radio may be an additional information source where its broadcast is available; the Saipan transmitter listing does not establish coverage elsewhere.

The official sources cited here do not establish a separate CNMI opt-in alert app. For alerts, use the current official bulletins and channels, the NWS hazards page, and the non-internet options described above.
