Search the exact game title alongside “PS5 disc,” “PS4 disc,” and “physical edition,” then check used-game retailers, local shops, and marketplace listings. A game disappearing from a digital store does not prove a disc version exists or that copies are still available: confirm the specific game, edition, seller, and your PS5’s disc-drive hardware before buying.
Can you still get a physical copy of a delisted game?
Sometimes. A physical release may remain in circulation after a game’s digital listing is no longer available, but availability depends on the title, edition, region, and seller. A digital delisting alone does not establish that the game was ever released on disc. Check the game’s release history and inspect the actual listing; no particular game’s current stock or price can be confirmed without checking live sellers.

For the same game, compare listings by platform and edition, disc and case condition, included materials or codes, return terms, shipping and total cost, and any online-service or download requirements. A boxed item or collectible edition may not include a game disc, so look for clear listing text and photos.
Check that your PS5 can play the disc
A PS5 with a disc drive can play PS5 and PS4 games on disc. Sony’s US PlayStation ecosystem page describes PS5 Digital Edition as digital-only and without a disc drive. Sony’s PS5 backward compatibility support page also says PS4 discs cannot be used with PS5 Digital Edition. Confirm your console edition before ordering.

If you find a PS4 disc
A PS4 physical copy can be an alternative when a separate PS5 physical edition is unavailable, but it is still the PS4 edition unless the listing explicitly identifies a PS5 edition. Sony says more than 99 percent of the 4,000+ games available on PS4 are playable on PS5; that general figure does not guarantee compatibility for a specific title.
Check the game’s entry against Sony’s current compatibility guidance. Sony lists these PS4-only games as not playable on PS5: Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One, Just Deal With It!, Robinson: The Journey, We Sing, Hitman Go: Definitive Edition, and Shadwen. Sony says the list may change. When playing a PS4 disc on PS5, the disc must be inserted each time, and an update may be required.

If a PS5 upgrade matters
Do not assume a PS4 disc includes a free PS5 version. Sony says some PS4 games offer upgrades to a PS5 digital version; an internet connection or an additional purchase may be required. Check the terms for the specific game before treating an upgrade as part of the purchase.
Search and evaluate listings step by step
- Search several precise phrases. Use the exact game title with “PS5 disc,” “PS4 disc,” and “physical edition.” If the game has multiple releases, also search its publisher or edition name.
- Check more than one kind of seller. Look at used-game retailers, local game shops, and marketplace listings. Confirm that the title actually had a disc release before assuming a physical copy can be found.
- Verify the item is the right game and platform. Check the listing description and photos for the platform, edition, and included disc. Distinguish a game disc from a digital code, empty box, or collector’s edition without the game.
- Check compatibility and hardware. For a PS4 disc, check Sony’s compatibility guidance for that title and make sure your PS5 has a disc drive.
- Inspect condition and requirements. Check the disc and case condition, whether inserts or codes are included, the seller’s return terms, and whether the game depends on downloads or online services. These details vary by title and listing.
- Compare the full cost. Include shipping when comparing listings. Rare or collector editions may cost more, and prices and inventory change; verify the current listing before purchase.
What Sony’s January 2028 disc announcement means
On July 1, 2026, Sid Shuman, Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications, announced that production of discs for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will end starting January 2028. He wrote: “This transition has no impact on games that already released, or will be releasing, prior to January 2028 in disc format.” The announcement concerns production for new releases.
