Use Dun & Bradstreet’s official D‑U‑N‑S Number Lookup and select “My Company.” Enter the business address or phone number requested, then verify that any result matches the business and the specific location that needs the identifier. If no record appears, check your details and try again before requesting a number; a failed search alone does not prove that the business has none.
Look up your business on Dun & Bradstreet

Open D&B’s D‑U‑N‑S Number Lookup.

Choose “My Company” if you are checking your own organization. D&B also provides an “Other Company” option for looking up another organization.

Enter the address or phone number requested by the lookup. Use details that identify the business, and make sure they correspond to the company record you expect to find.

Review the returned record rather than relying on the number alone. Compare the business name and location with the organization that needs the identifier.

Check that the result is for the right business location
A D‑U‑N‑S Number is a unique nine-digit identifier assigned by D&B. D&B describes numbers as identifying distinct business locations, so a company with branches or subsidiaries may have more than one relevant number. Confirm that the result is for the particular location or entity involved in your application or record.
D&B’s D‑U‑N‑S Number documentation explains the identifier’s location properties. A name match by itself may not be enough if a business operates from multiple addresses.
If the lookup finds no match
Check for changed or mismatched details
D&B identifies changed addresses and phone numbers as reasons a business may not be found. Retry with accurate current details, and consider whether the company record may use a previous address or phone number. A no-match result can reflect outdated identifying information rather than the absence of a number.

D&B’s company-search documentation lists company name, registration number, telephone number, executive name, and street address as search criteria. Those fields belong to D&B’s company-search product; they may not all be available in the public D‑U‑N‑S lookup interface.
If the result remains unclear, assess whether the name, address, phone number, and location in the record correspond to the organization you need. D&B describes match-confidence information in its company-search product, which is separate from the basic lookup.
Request a number only after checking
D&B says not every business has a D‑U‑N‑S Number. Its request flow instructs users to check whether a number already exists before submitting a new request. If a careful lookup still finds no record, follow that flow; it asks for the business name and ZIP code before proceeding. D&B says a number must be requested by a verified business owner or officer.
