Shop for the exact sneaker model, not a brand’s reputation: width options vary by style, and sizing up usually adds length rather than useful toe-box room. Measure both feet, then check the model’s width, size conversion, fit notes, materials and return terms before buying.
Start with foot measurements, not a guessed size
Measure each foot while standing, wearing the socks you expect to use with the sneakers. Record heel-to-toe length and the widest part of each foot; use the larger measurement when comparing against a brand’s size chart. Measure late in the day if your feet tend to swell. A measurement is a starting point, not a guarantee of fit: sneaker shape and sizing vary by model.
Use the relevant regional chart to translate your foot length into a size, and check whether the model comes in half sizes. Do not assume that a US, UK or EU size converts identically across brands. The product page’s conversion and fit advice matter more than a general brand chart when the two differ.

Check width on the exact product page
Look for a width selector or a clear width description for the precise sneaker and market you plan to buy. A brand may offer several widths on some shoes while making other styles in only one width. Ferragamo’s US shoe size guide says selected models are available in narrow, standard and wide widths, but also notes that some sneakers are “one-width-only (M).” That guidance does not identify which current sneaker models are wide; verify the listing itself.

Terms such as regular, wide and extra-wide are familiar from general sneaker guidance, including Nike’s fit guide, but luxury brands and individual models may use different labels—or no alternate width options. A wide-fit recommendation elsewhere is not proof that a particular designer sneaker is sold in wide.
Do not size up to solve toe-box pressure
A larger shoe changes length and may leave the heel slipping or the foot moving inside the sneaker without creating needed width. Christian Louboutin’s US fit and sizing FAQ specifically warns that going up in size changes length, not toe-box width. Treat that as a useful caution when evaluating any tight-fitting pair.

- MODERN COURT STYLE: Clean, streamlined design with a contemporary edge.
- ALL-DAY COMFORT: Designed for everyday wear with a supportive feel.
- REFINED DETAILS: Gold-foil branding on the heel and tongue elevates the look.
- ICONIC FINISH: Embroidered green crocodile on the quarter.
The same FAQ says most materials loosen with repeated wear. That is not a promise that a painful or sharply tight shoe will become wide enough. Consider material and any official model-specific advice, but choose a fit that is comfortable at purchase rather than relying on break-in to fix inadequate width.
Compare candidate sneakers by fit, not just label
Two styles in the same nominal size can feel different. Compare these details for each exact model:

- Upper material: What is it made from, and does the brand describe any break-in behavior?
- Purchase terms: Is your size and width in stock, and can you return or exchange the pair under the seller’s current terms?
Designer roundups can help you discover styles, but their size ranges and fit notes are model-specific editorial reporting, not evidence of alternate widths or a systematic fit test. For example, Marie Claire’s 2026 designer sneaker roundup, published August 17, 2026, reports that its Chloé Nama example runs small and is listed in US 5–11 without half sizes; those details should be checked against the current product listing before relying on them.

Before ordering, confirm the seller, selected size and width, stock status, shipping market, and current return or exchange conditions. Policies and availability can change, and a brand’s sizing guide does not guarantee that a particular size is available from a particular seller.

- Read model-specific fit advice and compare it with your measurements and toe-box needs.
- Review the seller’s current return and exchange rules before checkout, especially if you cannot try the sneaker on locally.
- On arrival, try both shoes indoors on a clean surface. Keep them only if length, width and toe-box comfort work without painful pressure or unstable slipping.
