Open Notification Center first: alerts that are still listed can be reviewed or opened, but Apple does not document a way to restore a notification after it has been cleared. If the alert is gone, check the app that sent it for the underlying message or activity; whether that content remains available depends on the app.
Check Notification Center for alerts that are still there
- Open Notification Center. From the Lock Screen, swipe up from the middle of the screen. While using another screen, swipe down from the top-left area. Apple’s iPhone User Guide documents both gestures.
- Look through the alerts. Scroll to older notifications that remain listed. Apple describes Notification Center as a place to review notification history and see what you have missed in its guide to using notifications on iPhone or iPad.
- Expand a group if needed. Tap a group of notifications to see its individual alerts.
- Open the relevant alert. If it is still listed, tap it to go to the associated app or content.
Can you recover cleared notification history?
Apple documents how to clear an individual notification or clear notifications from the list, but its support instructions do not document an undo or restore control for cleared alerts. If the alert no longer appears in Notification Center, iPhone does not provide a documented way to bring that notification back.

This is different from recovering the information the alert referred to. A message, event, or other activity may still be available inside the app that sent the notification, but app retention varies. Open that app and look for the underlying content; this may recover the information, not the notification itself.

An alert that did not appear where expected may be affected by the app’s notification settings, Focus, or scheduled summaries. These features can change how or when notifications are delivered or displayed; they do not restore an alert that has already been cleared.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.

- App notification settings: Check Settings > Notifications, select the app, and review its alert locations and delivery choices.
- Focus: Check whether a Focus was active when you expected the alert.
- Scheduled summaries: Check whether the app’s notifications are included in a scheduled summary.
- Notification layout: Apple offers Count, Stack, and List display options. These affect how retained alerts appear, not whether cleared ones can be recovered.
