To find lodging that can accommodate your RV, start with the exact dimensions of your travel setup, then verify the individual campsite or hotel’s parking rules and space. “RV friendly” alone does not confirm that your rig will fit. Check the listed limits, access and amenities, and contact the property before booking whenever details are missing or unclear.
Find a campground site that fits your full setup
A campground may have some sites that accept RVs while others are tent-only or too small. Check the listing for the specific site you plan to reserve, including its maximum RV or trailer length, site type and alerts. Yosemite National Park’s reservation guidance explains that a site’s listed length is the maximum it can easily accommodate; roads and turning radius can also affect whether a rig can reach it. Read the site alerts and choose a site suitable for your equipment. Yosemite campground information
Measure the configuration you will actually drive
Compare the site limit with your complete travel configuration, including the RV and any towed trailer. Consider the room needed to maneuver, as well as the parking pad. Slide-outs and awnings can require additional space once the vehicle is parked. National Park Service campsite design guidance identifies dimensions, site layout and hookup locations as factors to consider when assessing fit. NPS campground design standards

A published length limit does not guarantee an easy approach. Check whether the site is pull-through or back-in and whether the access road and turns work for your rig. If the listing does not explain turning access, hookup position or a site alert, ask the campground office about that specific site before reserving.

Confirm the amenities you need
Campground service levels vary. Parks Canada says frontcountry campgrounds have washrooms and may also offer showers, kitchen shelters, electrical, sewer and water hookups, or Wi-Fi zones. Check the destination’s detailed amenity list rather than assuming that one campground’s services apply to another. Parks Canada camping information
Verify any details that matter to your trip, such as electrical service and amperage where listed, water, sewer, dump stations, showers and washrooms. If a service or its location is unclear, confirm it directly with the campground.

Check a hotel’s RV parking policy with the property
Hotel parking rules vary by property, even within the same chain. Official hotel FAQs illustrate the difference: one says RV parking is unavailable and asks guests with particularly large vehicles to call; another says RVs and commercial vehicles cannot park in its lot. Those examples are not a guide to other hotels, so read the actual property’s parking page or FAQ and ask the property directly. Questions to ask before you book
- Are RVs and trailers allowed, and can they remain overnight?
- Is there outdoor parking that can fit the full RV-and-trailer combination?
- What are the maximum height, length and width, and is there enough room to turn?
- Are fees, advance arrangements or a parking reservation required?
- If parking is in a garage or at an off-site facility, what clearance and vehicle restrictions apply?
Compare any garage clearance with the tallest point of your vehicle, including roof equipment. Ask the property to confirm the arrangement before committing to a nonrefundable stay, and keep the guidance or parking details with your booking. If the hotel cannot accommodate the rig, look for a nearby RV park or campground and consider how you will travel between it and the hotel.

Use clearance standards as a prompt to verify, not a guarantee
National Park Service campground standards list at least 14 feet of overhead clearance for RV sites and driveways. That is a standard reference, not a promise that every campground route, individual site or hotel has that clearance. Check the actual route and property conditions for your vehicle, particularly where height or roof equipment could be an issue. NPS campground design standards

When more than one option could work, compare campgrounds on the site’s maximum rig length, configuration, access and turning space, pull-through or back-in layout, required amenities, booking certainty and cancellation terms. For hotels, compare explicit permission for RVs and trailers, available outdoor space or garage clearance, full-combination dimensions, overnight rules, fees and distance from your planned stop.

- Measure your setup. Record the dimensions of the RV and trailer, and account for slide-outs, awnings and roof equipment where relevant.
- Inspect the exact listing. For a campground, review the individual site’s length limit, layout, alerts and amenity details. For a hotel, read the specific property’s parking policy.
- Check access and restrictions. Consider road turns and maneuvering for a campsite; ask about space, clearance and overnight rules for hotel parking.
- Contact the property about gaps. Get confirmation for any uncertain dimensions, access, hookups, services or parking arrangements before you commit.
- Reserve the suitable option and keep the confirmation. Review the booking terms and retain any site-specific or parking guidance with your reservation.
