Start with ClinicalTrials.gov for international records and the Clinical Trials Registry–India (CTRI) for India-specific listings. Search by therapy name, condition, and trial identifier; then verify the live recruitment status, participating site, eligibility criteria, and contact details in the official record. A published study in India is not evidence that it is currently enrolling.

Search the official trial registries

Use both registries because studies may be listed internationally, in India, or in both places. Try several terms rather than relying on a single label: records may identify a therapy by its investigational product, the word “optogenetic,” or the retinal disease being studied.

  • Therapy and approach: optogenetic, MCO-010, GS030, KIO-301, and RTx-015.
  • Condition: retinitis pigmentosa and blindness.
  • Known identifiers: NCT04919473, NCT04945772, NCT06162585, and NCT05417126.

Search each relevant term on ClinicalTrials.gov and CTRI. When a result appears, check that its intervention and condition actually match the therapy and diagnosis you are investigating; a similar acronym or a related retinal study may be unrelated.

What the India study and known records do—and do not—show

The Cuttack MCO-010 study is historical evidence, not an enrollment listing

A 2025 report in Molecular Therapy describes an investigator-initiated, open-label phase I/IIa study at JPM Rotary Club of Cuttack Eye Hospital and Research Institute in Odisha, registered as NCT04919473. Four blind patients with retinitis pigmentosa and ABCA4 variants received one intravitreal injection of AAV2-MCO-010. The report describes improvements in visual acuity, shape discrimination, and mobility through 52 weeks. This small study does not establish broad efficacy, treatment availability, or current recruitment.

Nanoscope also cites NCT05417126 as STARLIGHT. Treat that identifier as a lead to verify, not proof that a site is enrolling: check the current registry entry, intervention, location, and status.

NCT06162585 is a follow-up for previous participants

ClinicalTrials.gov lists NCT06162585 as a non-interventional long-term follow-up of people previously enrolled in RESTORE (NCT04945772). The record was listed as active, not recruiting, with a last posted update of March 24, 2025. Because it follows prior participants, it is not a route for new candidates. Recruitment labels and updates can change, so check the live record before acting.

Distinguish the investigational therapies

“Optogenetic therapy” does not refer to one interchangeable treatment. Different programs use different approaches and may have different study populations, requirements, and equipment.

Program What the source describes What to verify before pursuing it
MCO-010 Nanoscope-associated AAV2-MCO-010; the Cuttack report describes intravitreal administration in a small RP study. Current registry status, location, eligibility, and study contact. A published study alone does not show an open site.
GS030 GenSight’s approach uses a modified AAV2 vector encoding a photoactivatable channelrhodopsin for retinal ganglion cells, paired with biomimetic goggles that deliver wavelength-specific stimulation. Whether a relevant GS030 record is recruiting and where. GenSight says the engineered cells are less light-sensitive than normal photoreceptors, and ordinary daylight vision may not be possible without further intervention.
KIO-301, RTx-015, and the AGTC/Bionic Sight program GenSight’s 2025 Universal Registration Document discusses these among optogenetic programs; pipeline milestones and estimates are not registry enrollment listings. Confirm each program’s current trial record, location, recruitment status, eligibility, and contact in official registries and sponsor information.

GenSight describes PIONEER as a dose-escalation safety and tolerability study in retinitis pigmentosa. Its clinical development page separately says no GS010 trials are enrolling; GS010 is not GS030, so that statement should not be read as the recruitment status of GS030.

Check whether a record could apply to you

Open the full current record rather than relying on a search result or a sponsor pipeline announcement. Review these fields before contacting a study team:

  • Recruitment status: Look for the current label and whether it applies to a specific location, not just the study overall.
  • Locations: Confirm the country and named hospital or research site. A study listed in India does not mean every Indian site is enrolling.
  • Eligibility: Read inclusion and exclusion criteria, including diagnosis, disease history, age, and any genetic requirements stated in the record.
  • Study design and intervention: Check the phase, whether the study is interventional or follow-up, and what treatment or equipment is involved.
  • Contacts and dates: Use the official record’s study contact and note when the record was last updated.

A planned submission, announced milestone, or older article cannot confirm that enrollment is open. The reviewed evidence does not establish a currently recruiting Indian optogenetic therapy site.

For India, check the site as well as regulatory oversight

India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) describes its Global Clinical Trial Division as responsible for regulatory evaluation, approval, monitoring, and oversight of global trials conducted in India under the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019, and applicable good clinical practice guidance. This regulatory role is not confirmation that a particular study or site is open to enrollment. Check the CTRI entry and the individual site, then contact the study team named in the current official record.

Contact the listed study team

If a record appears relevant, use its official contact details to ask whether the site is presently screening or enrolling. Share the diagnosis and relevant clinical history the study team requests, and ask what records or tests are needed for an initial eligibility review. Only the study team can assess screening against that study’s criteria; a registry search cannot confirm an individual’s eligibility.
