To find the right creators for a brand campaign, define the campaign brief first, build a mixed shortlist from relevant communities and discovery tools, then assess each candidate against the same audience, content, suitability, and commercial criteria. Agree on deliverables and measurement before launch, and make disclosure requirements part of the campaign instructions.

1. Write a brief before searching

A brief gives you a consistent basis for comparing candidates and makes it easier to explain why a creator fits. Record the campaign objective and the evidence you will use to judge it before you look at profiles.

  • Objective: State what the campaign is meant to achieve, such as awareness, consideration, or a specific action.
  • Audience and geography: Describe whom you need to reach and where they are. Include relevant audience characteristics you can check.
  • Platform and format: Name the platform and the content formats that suit the campaign.
  • Budget and timeline: Set the working budget, key dates, and any production or approval deadlines.
  • Deliverables and constraints: Specify expected content, category restrictions, required claims, and any brand or legal requirements.
  • Evidence: Decide what information candidates should provide, such as audience details, examples of relevant work, past partnership information, and available reporting.

TikTok says its TikTok One Creator Marketplace can use a campaign brief for AI-assisted discovery. That is a platform feature; it does not replace the brand’s own brief or the need to assess candidates. TikTok for Business: TikTok One

2. Where to find creators

Look for creators where the community you want to reach already spends time. Search for relevant topics and formats, review the work itself, and use platform discovery features as one source of leads rather than treating any one tool as a complete shortlist.

Search communities and content

Find creators whose recent posts already address your audience’s interests. A relevant, established content pattern can make a sponsorship feel more credible than a one-off topic match. Save examples and note why each creator might suit the brief.

Use platform discovery tools as another source

TikTok describes TikTok One’s Creator Marketplace as supporting discovery and collaboration. Its current overview lists AI search from a natural-language brief, advanced filters, curated highlights, and open casting calls. The tool is a TikTok-specific example, not a requirement for campaigns on other platforms; access and feature availability can vary. 3. How to tell whether a creator fits your brand

Compare prospects on the same criteria, then weight those criteria according to the campaign objective. Follower count alone cannot establish audience relevance, brand suitability, or likely campaign results.

Criterion What to review
Audience match Available audience information, including geography, compared with the audience in your brief.
Content relevance and quality Recent posts, subject relevance, consistency, production quality, and whether the sponsored format would fit the creator’s usual voice.
Reach Demonstrated reach in the context of the campaign objective; do not treat it as proof of future performance.
Past partnerships Previous brand collaborations, including whether the categories and style suit your campaign.
Brand suitability Recent content and partnership history compared with your values, category restrictions, and campaign claims.
Practical fit Format, timing, budget, proposed deliverables, and the evidence or reporting available for your goal.

TikTok identifies content quality, reach, and past brand partnerships as discovery signals. Those signals can help you screen candidates, but they do not establish audience authenticity, validate a universal brand-safety score, or guarantee campaign performance. The platform’s materials do not prescribe a validated scoring formula for ranking creators. TikTok for Business: TikTok One and TikTok One creator collaboration help

4. Vet brand suitability and partnership history

Review the creator’s recent posts and past partnerships against your brand’s values, category restrictions, and the claims the campaign may make. Note concerns that need a direct conversation before you commit.

  • Does the creator’s content consistently address topics relevant to your audience?
  • Would the proposed sponsorship feel plausible in the creator’s established voice?
  • Do recent posts or prior partnerships conflict with your brand’s requirements?
  • Can the creator support the campaign’s claims and follow its review process?

No single platform signal should be treated as a complete, objective brand-safety or fake-follower audit. If a question matters to the decision, request relevant information and discuss it with the creator rather than assuming a score settles it.

5. Agree on terms and measurement before launch

Put the working terms in writing so both sides know what will be produced, when it is due, and how results will be reviewed. Choose measures before launch and connect them to the campaign objective.

  • List deliverables, formats, deadlines, and the review or approval process.
  • Confirm payment terms and any usage or amplification rights.
  • Specify required disclosures and who is responsible for checking them.
  • Identify which reporting will be available and which measures will be used to assess the campaign.

TikTok describes campaign reporting and insights in its platform materials, but the materials do not establish a universal measurement standard or independent proof of incremental impact. A platform metric can describe activity; it should not be presented by itself as proof that the campaign caused a result. TikTok for Business: TikTok One

6. Build disclosure checks into the campaign

For endorsements relevant to U.S. consumers, FTC staff guidance says a material connection—such as payment or receiving free or discounted products—should be made obvious with the endorsement. The FTC’s guidance states: “If you endorse a product through social media, your endorsement message should make it obvious when you have a relationship (‘material connection’) with the brand.” FTC: Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers

Give the creator clear written instructions to put the disclosure where people will see and understand it alongside the endorsement. Do not rely on a profile bio, a buried hashtag, or a platform disclosure tool as an automatic safe harbor. FTC guidance places responsibility on both the influencer and the brand. The guidance is U.S.-focused; other countries’ requirements and platform rules may also apply. The FTC notes that its Endorsement Guides were revised in 2023. Turn the shortlist into a decision

Use the brief’s priorities to compare candidates, record the evidence behind each assessment, and identify any unanswered questions before making an offer. A defensible choice is not necessarily the creator with the largest audience; it is the candidate whose audience, content, terms, and available evidence best fit the campaign’s stated goal.
