Your Samsung account does not have one universal photo recycle bin. To recover a missing image, check Samsung Gallery’s Trash first, then look in OneDrive or Google Photos using the account that held the copy. Samsung Gallery sync with OneDrive ended September 30, 2026, but media synced before then remains accessible in OneDrive.
Start with where the photo was stored
Choose the recovery location based on how the photo was deleted or saved. Gallery Trash, OneDrive’s Recycle bin, and Google Photos Trash are separate. A photo deleted from one app may still exist in another service, so check each account you used for backup.
- Deleted recently in Samsung Gallery: check Gallery Trash.
- Previously synced from Gallery to OneDrive: look for the photo in OneDrive.
- Backed up with Google Photos: check Google Photos and its Trash.
- Missing but not knowingly deleted: verify which Samsung, Microsoft, or Google account is signed in.
Restore a recently deleted photo from Samsung Gallery
- Open Gallery on your Galaxy device.
- Open the Gallery menu and select Trash. Menu labels and locations vary by model and software version.
- Select the photo, then tap the restore option.
Samsung Support Germany says Gallery-deleted items are generally recoverable from Trash for 30 days; its guidance was updated May 23, 2024. The period and menu path may vary by device, software, region, and app version. If the photo is not there, check the cloud services that may have held another copy.

Find photos previously synced to OneDrive
Samsung Gallery sync with OneDrive ended September 30, 2026. Samsung says media synced before the end remains in OneDrive, where you can view and download it. New photos no longer sync through the old Gallery integration; do not look for it as a current setup option.

Samsung Support Australia’s September 29, 2026 notice says previously synced photos and videos remain stored in OneDrive and accessible through its app. Samsung also identifies OneDrive Camera Backup as a separate way to continue photo uploads; it is not the discontinued Gallery sync.
Restore a photo deleted from OneDrive
- In OneDrive, open the profile or Me area.
- Choose Recycle bin.
- Select the photo and tap Restore.
Samsung Support US says OneDrive files remain in the Recycle bin for 93 days. Samsung also says deleted files can be restored on the OneDrive website. This retention period is specific to the service and may depend on account or policy. If the item is no longer in the bin, do not assume it can still be restored.

Restore a photo from Google Photos
- Open Google Photos and confirm you are signed in to the Google account used for backup.
- Open Collections or Library, then select Trash. The interface varies by app version.
- Select the photo and tap Restore.
Samsung Support India says items in Google Photos Trash are permanently deleted after 60 days. That is a service retention period, not a guarantee that every missing photo was backed up. If the photo is absent, check other accounts and backup locations.

Check the account if photos seem to be missing
A photo can be absent from the device’s Gallery but still available in a cloud app. Check the Samsung account on the device and the Microsoft and Google accounts signed in to their respective apps. Samsung advises checking the account used for the original backup.

What Samsung Cloud can—and cannot—restore
Samsung Cloud is not the current destination for Samsung Gallery photo sync. Samsung Support Germany says Gallery Sync and personal Drive storage stopped being supported in Samsung Cloud on June 30, 2021; Microsoft OneDrive replaced Gallery photo sync. Other Samsung Cloud backup, sync, and restore features continued separately.

A Samsung Cloud device backup may contain some data, but that does not establish that it contains every Gallery photo. Do not treat signing into a Samsung account as a way to recreate an image that was never backed up.
Understand the three separate Trash locations
| Location | Use it for | Published retention guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Gallery Trash | Items deleted in the Gallery app | Generally 30 days, according to Samsung Support Germany, updated May 23, 2024; device and software differences may apply. |
| OneDrive Recycle bin | Files deleted from OneDrive | 93 days, according to Samsung Support US; account or policy differences may apply. |
| Google Photos Trash | Items deleted in Google Photos | Permanently deleted after 60 days, according to Samsung Support India, updated August 30, 2024. |
These are separate services and deletion locations. Finding nothing in one Trash does not tell you whether a copy remains in another service.

Why sync and backup can lead to different results
Samsung describes sync as keeping files consistent across connected devices, while backup creates a safety copy. With synced content, a deletion may be reflected across connected locations. A separate backup may remain available even if the local Gallery copy is gone. The exact outcome depends on which service and settings handled the photo.
If the photo is absent everywhere
If the image is permanently deleted from Gallery and no other copy or backup exists, Samsung says it generally cannot be restored through Gallery. The same caution applies if a cloud service’s Trash has been emptied or its retention period has passed: recovery is uncertain, and an account sign-in cannot restore a file that was never saved there.
Keep future photo backups working
Because the Samsung Gallery-to-OneDrive sync has ended, future uploads require a separate backup workflow, such as OneDrive Camera Backup or Google Photos backup. Check the app’s backup status, the account in use, available cloud storage, and whether video backup is enabled. Samsung’s 2026 Germany guide notes that uploads stop when the storage allowance is exhausted. Before deleting a photo, consider whether deletion will also affect synced copies in the services you use.
