Start with Red Dead Redemption 2, Bully: Scholarship Edition, or Max Payne 3: all three appear in Rockstar’s current game catalog, and on its PC Launcher supported-titles list. Dan Houser worked on games beyond Grand Theft Auto, but these were team productions, so his connection should not be mistaken for sole authorship. For a new story world, A Better Paradise is available as a novel; its announced game is not yet playable.
Which Dan Houser games should you look for?
Houser’s work outside Grand Theft Auto spans western adventures, school-set action, crime stories, and racing. He has said he worked on both Red Dead Redemption games, and Simon & Schuster describes him as lead writer on more than 20 video games, including Red Dead Redemption and Bully. How to find the right edition and platform
- Open Rockstar’s game catalog and search for the exact title. Use the individual game listing to confirm the edition and platforms it currently offers; catalog presence alone does not confirm availability on every system.
- If you play on PC, check Rockstar’s supported PC Launcher titles. The support page is dated October 22, 2024, so it is a useful check for Launcher support, not a guarantee of current regional purchase options.
- For Midnight Club: Los Angeles, consult Rockstar’s title page and check your region and system before seeking a copy. Its listed systems and retired online features do not establish that every version can still be newly purchased.

Absurd Ventures has described several developing or planned properties, but the announced concepts should not be treated as released games. The clearest announced game is set in A Better Paradise; for the other projects, the available interview descriptions indicate plans or exploration rather than a playable release.

A Better Paradise: a book now, a game in development
A Better Paradise: Volume One (An Aftermath) is a novel by Dan Houser, published by Absurd Ventures and distributed by Simon & Schuster. It is a way to enter the story world now, but it is a book, not a game. The publisher’s page gives the hardcover’s ISBN, page count, and publication date. [Simon & Schuster book page]
In a March 11, 2025 interview with Publishers Weekly, Houser said the game was already being developed and would take several more years. In August 2025, Smilegate announced a global publishing agreement and described the game as being in early development; the announcement said platforms and schedule would be disclosed later. No release date or platform list was provided in that announcement, so there is no confirmed platform-specific route to play it yet. [Publishers Weekly interview; Smilegate announcement]
Absurdaverse: a comedy-satire project
Houser described a planned open-world game in the Absurdaverse as a “living sitcom” in a December 2025 Guardian interview, which also discussed animation projects. That phrase is his description of a project, not confirmation of its final design or a release. The interview does not establish that the game is available to play. [The Guardian interview]

American Caper: a crime-fiction concept
American Caper began as a comic-book project. Houser told the Guardian that its game concept was being explored as a story game rather than an open-world game. Houser’s non-GTA work is broad, but he was part of teams rather than the sole creator of every game associated with his name. The Guardian says he worked on every Grand Theft Auto from the third installment and both Red Dead Redemption adventures; Simon & Schuster calls him lead writer on more than 20 video games.
