Check the game’s current price in your own Steam store, compare it with its Steam price history, then check current offers for the same edition at other PC stores. A discount percentage or record-low price is useful context—not a promise about what the game will cost next time.
1. Confirm you’re comparing the same game and edition
Find the game in the Steam store and check exactly what the listing includes before noting a price. A base game, deluxe edition, bundle, and downloadable content (DLC) are different products; a lower price for one is not a like-for-like comparison with another.

- Confirm the title and edition.
- Check bundle contents and whether DLC is included.
- For offers outside Steam, confirm the platform or launcher and region activation terms.
2. Record the current Steam price for your region
Note the price and currency shown on your own Steam store page, the displayed discount, and any offer end date Steam provides. There is no single universal Steam price: Valve says prices are specified and displayed using 37 currencies and four region groups, and developers choose the prices they enter for those currencies and groups. Valve’s pricing explorer describes exchange-rate, purchasing-power, and multi-variable conversion approaches; its public conversion-method data is dated January 2026. Use the price applicable to your own region and currency. Regional prices are not an invitation to change account country to get a cheaper offer; Valve’s 2023 notice about Argentina and Turkey describes a change to USD pricing beginning November 20, 2023, alongside new regional pricing groups.

3. Check the game’s Steam price history
- Open SteamDB’s price-history page and search for the game.
- Verify the result is the correct product, then open its price-history view.
- Review both the chart and price table. Compare the current price with prior lows and look at when and how often discounts appeared.
- Recheck the Steam store listing before buying, since live prices and offers can change.
SteamDB says its records update in real time as Steam changes prices and that its historical dataset covers 41 currencies, with data going back to 2012. Those are claims about SteamDB’s records, not a Valve guarantee or an official Steam price-history service. A recorded low is a price observed in the past, not a forecast: SteamDB says it cannot know what prices or discounts will appear in future sales.
If you want a quick reference while browsing Steam, SteamDB’s optional browser extension is available for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge and can show lowest recorded prices on product pages. You can also use SteamDB’s watchlist or add the game to your Steam wishlist to keep track of it.

4. Compare current offers at other PC stores
IsThereAnyDeal lists live offers attributed to Steam and other PC game stores. Search for the same game, then verify the edition, platform or launcher, region, and final checkout terms for each offer. Its listings are dynamic, so confirm the details with the retailer before paying.
SteamDB also describes a regional-pricing tool that queries Steam’s official storefront API daily for seven regions. That collection detail applies to the tool it documents; it should not be read as a promise that every region or every price display has the same update cadence. 5. Weigh the full offer, not just the discount
When you have comparable offers, assess these factors together:
- Product: Exact title, edition, bundle contents, and DLC.
- Total price: The amount and currency that apply to your region, including any checkout terms the store shows.
- Price context: How the current price compares with the game’s past lows and discount pattern.
- Store and platform: Who is selling it, which launcher or platform the product uses, and whether it activates in your region.
- Refund route: Which store handles a refund and what rules apply.
- Timing: Whether the current price is acceptable for you, rather than whether you expect a specific future sale price.
6. Account for the refund policy
For games bought on Steam, Valve’s general refund offer applies within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours played, subject to the details and exceptions in its refund policy. Valve cannot refund purchases made outside Steam, including third-party CD keys and Steam Wallet cards. A lower outside offer therefore has a different refund route; check the retailer’s terms before buying. The Steam policy page was last updated April 23, 2024, and refund eligibility can depend on product type and jurisdiction.

7. Decide whether to buy or wait
If the current local price is acceptable compared with the game’s past prices and you want to play now, buying may make sense. If it is not, add it to a Steam or SteamDB watchlist and check again later. Previous discounts can help you judge whether waiting is worthwhile, but neither a historical low nor a sale pattern establishes when—or at what price—the next discount will happen.
