On current Samsung guidance, start at Settings → Security and privacy. From there, open Permission manager to review app access, use Privacy dashboard to check recent permission activity, and visit More privacy settings for additional Samsung controls. Menu names and available features can vary by model, One UI version, region, and software update.
Where to find privacy settings on a Samsung Galaxy
Open Settings → Security and privacy. Samsung places its main permission controls in Permission manager, where you can review categories such as Camera, Location, Microphone, and Calendar. For other Samsung-specific options, open More privacy settings; Samsung lists items there including its privacy website and the option to send diagnostic data. Samsung also documents Google-related privacy controls in this area. Samsung’s current US support instructions describe these menus.
Exact labels and availability depend on your Galaxy model, One UI version, region, and installed updates; Samsung notes that not every feature is available on every device. If a path below does not match your screen, use the Settings search field and try terms such as “privacy,” “permission manager,” “camera access,” or “microphone access.” Search results and wording can also vary.

The Privacy dashboard shows which apps accessed data, which permissions they used, and when the access occurred. To find it, open Settings and tap Security and privacy or Privacy, then Privacy dashboard. Some phones may require tapping Privacy again. Select a permission category to review activity; tap an app to update its permission.

The history window depends on Android version: Google documents the last seven days for Android 13 and the last 24 hours for Android 12. The dashboard is an activity view for permission use, not a complete record of every kind of data an app or service may collect. Google’s Privacy Dashboard instructions describe the feature and these version differences.
Change an app’s permissions
You can change access from the app’s own settings or by permission category. The available choices depend on the permission, app, and Android version; for example, location may offer duration and precision choices that camera access does not.

Control camera and microphone access
An app’s Camera or Microphone permission is different from the device-wide control. Permission manager decides whether a particular app may access a sensor; a device-wide switch can turn access off for apps more broadly.

For device-wide controls, open Settings → Security and privacy → Privacy controls and turn Camera access or Microphone access off or on. You can also use the Camera access and Microphone access tiles in Quick Settings. If a tile is missing, edit Quick Settings to add it. Turning off a device-wide control can prevent even an app with permission from using the hardware until you turn access back on. Paths and labels can differ by device. Google’s Android privacy guidance covers these controls.
On Android 12 and later, a green indicator appears near the top-right of the screen when an app uses the camera or microphone. Tap it to see which app or service is using the sensor; tapping again can take you toward permission management. The indicator and available actions may vary across devices. Google’s guidance documents the indicator behavior.

Understand the three location controls
Location settings have different scopes, so changing one does not necessarily change the others. Review all three when you want to limit how your phone or an app accesses location.
Recommended Free Tools
- Device-wide Use location: Turning this off prevents apps and services from getting the device’s location through that control. It does not mean every location-related estimate or record is governed by that switch; account services or IP-based estimates can work differently.
- Per-app location permission: In Permission manager or the app’s Permissions page, choose whether an app can access location and for how long. Depending on the app and Android version, choices may include allowing all the time, only while using the app, asking each time, or denying access.
- Approximate or precise location: On Android 12 and later, an app may be granted approximate rather than precise location, if that choice is offered. Approximate access can suit apps that need a general area rather than a close position.
- Location Accuracy: This setting uses available sources such as wireless signals and sensors to improve location estimates. Disabling it can reduce accuracy and affect some services.
Google explains these distinctions in its Android location settings guidance and location accuracy instructions.
