For World Space Week 2026, start with the official event map, then check local planetariums, science museums, astronomy clubs, schools, universities, and space agencies for additional listings. World Space Week runs October 4–10 under the theme “Rocket Revolution,” but each event sets its own date, venue, registration rules, price, and age requirements. Confirm those details with the organizer before you go.

What is World Space Week?

World Space Week is an annual international celebration of space science and technology education and outreach. The United Nations declared it in 1999, establishing October 4–10 as its dates. October 4 marks the 1957 launch of Sputnik 1; October 10 marks the 1967 signing of the Outer Space Treaty. The UN supports coordination with the World Space Week Association, which works with national coordinators.

The official website’s global map is the best starting point for events registered with the association. It is not a standardized directory of every local activity, so organizers may also publish programs through their own calendars. The association reported 50,000 events in 102 countries in 2025, according to its March 2, 2026 report; that is a reported total for 2025, not a count of current 2026 listings.

When is World Space Week 2026, and what is the theme?

World Space Week 2026 runs October 4–10. The theme is “Rocket Revolution,” focused on changes in launch systems and access to space. Possible activities include STEM lessons, model or DIY rocket launches, stargazing, space-film marathons, planetarium programs, and community events. The theme does not mean every event will include a rocket activity.

How to find an event near you

  1. Start at the official World Space Week website. Open its global event map or listings and search by city, region, or country where those filters are available. Listings there are events registered with the association.
  2. Check local calendars too. Search planetariums, science museums and centres, schools, universities, astronomy clubs, and national space agencies. Some local programs may appear on an organizer’s site or regional page rather than on the global map.
  3. Use specific search terms. Try “World Space Week events near me,” “World Space Week [city] 2026,” or “World Space Week October 4–10 events.” Add a venue or activity, such as “planetarium” or “stargazing,” if you want to narrow the results.
  4. Open the organizer’s event page. Confirm the exact date and local start time, venue or online access details, intended age group, registration method, price, and whether places remain. The annual October 4–10 observance does not mean every event runs all week.
  5. Register or contact the organizer. If a listing requires registration, follow its instructions and save the confirmation. Ask the named organizer about unanswered questions, then check the event page again before travelling in case details change.

How to compare events before choosing

When you find more than one suitable listing, compare the details that affect whether you can attend and enjoy it. There is no single global event database with standardized terms, so use each organizer’s information.

  • Location and travel: Check distance, transit or parking, and whether the venue is practical to reach.
  • Format: Identify whether it is in person or online, and whether it is a workshop, lecture, outdoor activity, planetarium show, or community event.
  • Audience fit: Look for age or school-grade guidance, experience level, and accessibility information.
  • Practical terms: Confirm the start time, duration, registration, fee, remaining capacity, and any cancellation or weather arrangements.

Example: a listing is not a universal rule

Spacetopia’s 2026 workshop listing for Hyderabad and Bengaluru gives October 10–11 dates, separate sessions for school grade bands, named venues, and a fee of ₹1,400 plus GST per child. These are details for that organizer’s offering only. They do not establish a general World Space Week ticket price or an attendance rule for other events.

Do you need to bring anything?

Check the individual listing for materials or preparation. The 2026 theme may inspire hands-on activities, but a model rocket kit is not required to find or attend an event. World Space Week’s account reported a partnership with Estes Education on a Rocket Launch Toolkit that includes a balloon-rocket activity using everyday materials; that toolkit is one activity option, not an endorsement or entry requirement.
