The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has 120 shrines in the base game. The The Champions’ Ballad expansion adds 16 more, for 136 shrine locations if you own the DLC. You can find and complete all 120 base-game shrines without buying the expansion.
The most reliable approach is to reveal the map region by region, use the Sheikah Slate’s map and scope to spot points of interest, and compare your progress with a regional shrine checklist. If a location is not accessible, check its directions and any associated quest or entrance conditions.
How to search for shrines efficiently
- Reveal a map region. Climb and activate a tower to uncover more of Hyrule’s map. Nintendo Life’s region-by-region shrine guide organizes locations around tower map regions.
- Scan the terrain. Use the Sheikah Slate map and scope to look for points of interest. Nintendo describes the Slate as having a map of Hyrule to guide Link’s journey: Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild page.
- Check one region at a time. Compare the shrines you have found in that region with a regional list, such as Zelda Dungeon’s 120-shrine index. Mark off each location before moving to another region.
- Follow the individual directions. A map marker may not be an open entrance. Some shrines have access conditions, so use the shrine-specific directions and check for a quest or an entrance that is not immediately visible.
Where to find the regional shrine lists
Use a checklist that groups shrines by map region rather than trying to sweep all of Hyrule at once. Zelda Dungeon lists the 120 base-game shrines by region and links its interactive map to shrine pages. Nintendo Life also groups locations by tower region and includes location examples. These formats help you narrow a missing shrine to the part of the map you are currently checking.
For a difficult or conditional location, open that shrine’s entry for its directions and access requirements instead of relying on a map pin alone.

How to tell which shrine you are missing
Compare your map against one region’s list at a time. Separate shrines you have discovered from those you have completed: finding a shrine does not mean you have finished its challenge. Zelda Dungeon notes that shrine map icons change state, and that an indicator appears when you have collected all the chests in a shrine. Use those map details to distinguish an undiscovered location from a shrine you have already found but have not fully cleared.

No. The 120-shrine set is the base-game checklist. The Champions’ Ballad adds 16 shrine locations; Zelda Dungeon distinguishes four Spirit Orb rewards from the other emblems associated with the Divine Beast Tamer’s Trial. Keep the DLC locations separate when tracking base-game progress. Nintendo’s Canada product page lists the two expansion packs and says the Expansion Pass requires the full game and is sold separately: check Nintendo’s current listing for purchase details.
