To find a tablet kernel that supports your touchscreen, start with the tablet’s exact model and hardware variant—not just its SoC. Then check the device-specific kernel source and device tree for the touchscreen controller, its configuration, and any board-specific requirements. A kernel built for a tablet with the same SoC is only a lead, not proof of compatibility.
What to identify before searching
Write down the manufacturer, exact model number, regional or hardware variant, and current operating system and build. Look for this information on the device label, in the manufacturer’s settings or About page, and in vendor support material. Small differences between variants can change board wiring or other hardware details.
Next, identify the SoC using trustworthy device information or the vendor’s firmware or source material. Record its exact model string rather than relying on a broad marketing family name. The SoC helps narrow the search, but it does not identify the tablet’s touchscreen controller or prove that another tablet’s kernel will work.

Search the exact tablet model alongside terms such as kernel source, device tree, DTS, or DTB. Prefer a manufacturer source release or an established project that explicitly supports the exact device. A device tree describes hardware the kernel cannot discover on its own. Android’s device-tree documentation describes a device tree as “a data structure of named nodes and properties that describe non-discoverable hardware.” Vendors can layer device-specific nodes or changes over an SoC-level description using overlays, and the bootloader passes the resulting tree to the kernel. In the device tree, check the root model and compatible properties. The compatible list may name the exact board first and broader SoC identifiers afterward. Linux’s documentation gives an example with an exact board identifier followed by broader identifiers, and warns that differences between boards can be substantial even within one product line. Search exact model identifiers first; use shared SoC identifiers to discover related work, not as compatibility proof. Linux kernel: Device tree usage.
Verify the touchscreen controller and driver

Locate the touchscreen node in the device-specific tree and note its

Compare that identifier with the Linux device-tree touchscreen bindings. The kernel maintains bindings for controller families including Goodix, Silead, Cypress, and Elan. Check the device-specific kernel source to confirm it includes or enables the corresponding driver. The kernel’s touchscreen Kconfig lists selectable driver support. A driver being available in the wider kernel does not establish that it is enabled in the tablet’s build. Linux kernel: Touchscreen Kconfig.

Inspect the device tree and binding for board-specific properties, firmware, reset and interrupt wiring, or calibration data. Android device trees can combine SoC-level and device-level descriptions, so a controller match alone may not capture what the tablet needs.
Use same-SoC devices as secondary evidence
If you cannot find source material for the exact tablet, a related device with the same SoC can help you discover likely kernel branches, controller families, or development projects. Compare the related device with your tablet on these points before treating its work as relevant:

Matching the SoC without these checks is not enough: board-to-board differences can affect how the touchscreen is described and initialized.

Preserve the stock image and follow recovery instructions written for that specific device before attempting an installation.
There is no universal touchscreen kernel or firmware to select from the information in a generic tablet query. Without the tablet’s model, hardware revision, SoC, touchscreen controller, and target OS, the exact kernel branch, driver configuration, firmware needs, and installation steps cannot be identified.
