Start with Samsung Find or SmartThings Find, signing in with the Samsung account already on the missing phone. Then check Google Find Hub with the Google Account on that device. If the phone may be nearby, make it ring; if theft is possible, lock it and contact authorities rather than going to the map pin. Erase it only when recovery looks unlikely and protecting your data matters more than continued location tracking.
1. Check Samsung Find and Google Find Hub
These are separate account-based services, so check both if you used both accounts on the Galaxy phone. In a browser, open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find, sign in with the Samsung account registered on the phone, and select the device. Samsung says you can also use another Galaxy device. For Google, open Find Hub in a browser or its app and sign in with the Google Account on the missing phone. Google may ask for the device’s screen-lock PIN or account credentials.
Read the map as an estimate, not a guarantee of a live or exact position. Samsung says a powered-off phone may show only its last known location. Google may also show a last-known location if it cannot find the current one. GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile-tower data contribute to Google’s location estimate, and accuracy varies. A phone indoors, underground, without power, or without connectivity may have a stale location or no location at all.
2. If the phone is probably nearby, make it ring
Use a sound command before taking more drastic action if the phone might be in your home, car, or immediate area.

- Samsung Find: Ring sounds for one minute, even if the phone is set to mute or vibrate.
- Google Find Hub: Play sound rings at full volume for five minutes, even in silent or vibrate mode.
Stay close enough to hear it, and check likely hiding places such as between cushions, bags, and the car before assuming the map has pinpointed the handset.
3. If theft is possible, lock the phone and stay safe
Do not travel to a location shown for a phone you believe was stolen. Samsung’s guidance is to inform the authorities and let them retrieve it; do not confront anyone yourself.

Use Samsung’s tracking and lock options
Samsung’s Track location feature can send updates every 15 minutes. Samsung Find can also notify you when the device is found. Use remote Lock when appropriate; Samsung says you can choose a PIN and optionally display a contact message.

Use Google’s Mark as lost option
Google Find Hub’s Mark as lost action locks the phone and lets you display a message and contact information. A message can help an honest finder reach you without exposing the phone’s contents.

4. Understand what must be enabled for location to work
For Samsung’s current-location service, the phone needs power, a stable network connection, a Samsung account, and remote controls enabled. Samsung says remote controls turn on by default when a Samsung account is added. On the U.S. support page, the settings path is Settings → Security and privacy → Lost device protection; the relevant options are “Allow this phone to be found,” “Send last location,” and “Offline finding.” Menu names and availability can vary by model, software version, and country.
Google lists power, mobile data or Wi-Fi, a Google Account, Find Hub enabled, and visibility on Google Play as requirements for remote secure or erase actions. Google says adding a Google Account to an Android device automatically turns on Find Hub. For network-assisted offline finding, Google’s settings and nearby-device network must be available, and the phone needs a screen lock. Recent locations are stored encrypted. Samsung Offline finding also depends on its setting having been enabled before the phone went missing.

Neither service promises continuous tracking. A phone without power or connectivity may provide only a historical location or none at all; offline finding depends on the relevant settings and network conditions.

Remote erasure is a last resort: it deletes data, and it can end the ability to track the phone through the relevant service.

- Samsung: Back up first if possible. Remote erase removes the phone’s data and, if present, SD-card data. Samsung warns that Google device protection may require the Google Account previously registered on the phone before the reset device can be used again.
- Google: Erase permanently deletes device data, may not delete SD-card data, and makes the phone’s location unavailable through Find Hub afterward.
If Samsung remote erase is unavailable, Samsung recommends changing passwords for accounts that may be signed in on the phone. Consider the loss of location access before confirming an erase request.
6. Ask your carrier about service options
If the built-in services do not locate the phone, ask your mobile carrier what help it offers. Samsung says a carrier may offer location or suspension assistance; Google notes that a carrier can use the IMEI to disable a device. Carrier capabilities and processes vary, so do not assume a carrier can locate every phone. Google Find Hub can show the phone’s IMEI.
