To file a GST appeal online, use the official GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) e-filing portal: register or sign in, complete the appeal form, add respondents and documents, review the final preview, and follow the portal’s submission and payment instructions. After filing, track procedural progress separately from hearing listings, and use the official re-filing guide if the tribunal returns the case for correction.

Before you start: confirm the deadline and your case requirements

Check the current GSTAT notice and applicable government notification before preparing a filing. The Ministry of Finance said on 30 June 2026 that the filing date under section 112(1) read with section 112(3) had been extended from 30 June to 31 July 2026. Its 29 July 2026 account of a taxpayer webinar described a token procedure: one separate token per appeal, with 60 days to complete filing from token generation. Those are dated announcements; they do not establish that the deadline or token facility remains open or unchanged on 4 October 2026. See the 30 June Ministry of Finance release and the 29 July release for their stated terms.

For a particular appeal, verify the order date, appeal category, governing provision, any later extension or clarification, and the instructions currently shown on the portal. Section 112 of the CGST Act sets out appeal and application periods, including provisions tied to communication of an order and the relevant Tribunal President taking office, as well as possible condonation in specified circumstances. The applicable date can therefore depend on the case and notifications; consult the CBIC text of section 112 and obtain qualified legal or tax advice where needed.

Have the order and supporting material available, and use the registration route corresponding to the appellant or representative role offered by the live portal. Exact document requirements, technical upload limits, fees, and any pre-deposit depend on the appeal and current directions; rely on the portal’s checklist and case-specific payment instructions rather than assuming a universal requirement.

How do I file an appeal on the GSTAT portal?

Start at the official GSTAT e-filing portal, which is linked from the GSTAT website. The portal provides access to registration and login, filing, case resources, and help. Labels and screens can change, so use the current on-screen instructions rather than treating a manual screenshot as the live interface.

Complete the staged appeal form

The GSTAT appeal-filing manual illustrates a staged sequence. Save each section and proceed through the sections presented for your case:

  1. Order Details: enter information about the order being challenged.
  2. Basic Details: provide the applicable Act and section, case type, jurisdiction, state or zone, and the authority whose order is challenged, as required by the form.
  3. Case Details: complete the case information requested on screen.
  4. Appellant Details: enter the appellant’s information.
  5. Add Respondent: add the respondent or respondents required for the appeal.
  6. Document: upload the supporting material requested for the case.
  7. Check List: work through the portal’s checklist and correct omissions it identifies.
  8. Final Preview: inspect the assembled filing before submission.

The illustrated order and labels are described in the GSTAT appeal-filing manual. Follow the live form if its sequence or wording differs.

Check documents and submit carefully

At the document and checklist stages, confirm that each uploaded item relates to the appeal and meets the current portal instructions. The manual establishes that document upload is part of the workflow, but does not establish every current file format, size limit, or document requirement for every appeal type. Verify those details against the live checklist and applicable rules.

Use Final Preview to check the parties, order information, case details, and attachments before filing. Then follow the portal’s submission and payment steps, and retain the filing acknowledgment and payment evidence. For payment guidance, consult the GSTAT help center and its linked Bharatkosh instructions. Do not assume that one fee or pre-deposit amount applies to every matter.

How can I track my GSTAT appeal?

Once filed, use the portal’s case-status or case-tracking facility to follow procedural progress. Check the cause list separately for scheduled hearings, and review notices and orders for documents or decisions. These sources answer different questions; an SMS or email alert is useful, but should not be your only check.

  • Case status: whether the matter has progressed procedurally.
  • Cause list: whether and when the case is listed for hearing.
  • Notices and orders: documents and decisions associated with the matter.
  • SMS/email: supplemental listing alerts for registered parties or users with valid credentials, after cause lists are finalized, according to the GSTAT e-filing FAQ and help resources.

Keep registered contact details current and sign in to confirm developments directly on the GSTAT portal.

What if the portal flags a defect or payment problem?

When a filing is returned for correction

Use the portal’s re-filing function and follow the official GSTAT appeal re-filing manual. Work through the stated correction requirements, update the relevant material, and submit the corrected filing through the designated re-filing route. Check the portal for the resulting acknowledgment or status.

For a technical issue or payment question

Use the portal help center’s report-an-issue or contact route for technical problems and payment guidance. The GSTAT site displays toll-free support at 1800-103-4782. Have the filing or incident reference and relevant acknowledgment ready when contacting support. For a payment issue, also follow the applicable Bharatkosh guidance linked from the GSTAT help center.

Why deadline figures need a date attached

The 30 June 2026 Ministry release also reported that 30,000 appeals were filed in the final 15 days before the then-deadline and that daily filings peaked at 5,500. Those are figures for the period described in that release, not current portal totals. The Ministry’s advice in the same release was: “Taxpayers are advised to plan their appeal filings well in advance and not wait until the deadline.” See the dated announcement for context.
