Use Delhi Police’s official Complaint Lodging service to submit a complaint, then use the CCTNS View/Search Complaint page to look up its record. Keep any complaint number or acknowledgement you receive. A complaint submission does not, by itself, confirm that an FIR has been registered; Delhi Police provides a separate FIR search.
File a complaint through Delhi Police

Open the Delhi Police website and select Complaint Lodging under Citizen Services, or use the complaint-lodging option on the Delhi Police CCTNS citizen portal.

Complete and submit the live form. The exact current fields, attachment requirements, and acknowledgement timing are not established here, so follow the instructions shown on the official form rather than relying on a fixed document checklist.

Save the complaint number or reference if one is provided, along with the submission date. These details can help when following up.
Track the complaint record
Open the official CCTNS View/Search Complaint facility. Its displayed search fields include complaint number, complainant name, district/unit, and police station/sub-unit. The CCTNS complaint search options page also offers a View Complaint Status function.
Use the details requested by the page and check that the district or police station information matches your complaint. The portal pages do not establish a guaranteed status-update or disposal timeframe. If you cannot find the record or its status appears stalled, retain your acknowledgement and contact the relevant police unit through official channels.
Complaint tracking and FIR search are different
A complaint lookup searches for a complaint record; an FIR lookup searches for a registered FIR. Delhi Police offers a separate FIR Search facility. It asks for district, police station, and year, with search options involving an FIR number or a date range and name.
Use FIR Search when you have reason to believe an FIR has been registered and want to locate that record. Do not treat a complaint acknowledgement or complaint-status result as proof that an FIR exists.

What the law says about reporting a cognizable offence
Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 concerns information relating to a cognizable offence. It allows information to be given orally or by electronic communication to the officer in charge of a police station, irrespective of where the offence occurred. If information is communicated electronically, it is taken on record after the person giving it signs it within three days.
This statutory route should not be confused with an assumption that every online complaint automatically becomes an FIR. Confirm with police what has actually been recorded. India Code lists the BNSS as Act No. 46 of 2023, in force from 1 July 2024; see its Act details.
