On a Samsung Galaxy A13, a “hard reset” means a factory data reset—not restarting the phone. It removes personal data and downloaded content, so back up what you need and check your account credentials before proceeding. If you can unlock and use the phone, Samsung’s documented Settings route is the clearest option; button-based and remote methods depend on your model, software, and service eligibility.
Before you reset: protect your data and check your accounts
A factory reset is destructive. Samsung Support states, “A factory data reset will remove all data and content from your device.” Back up anything you want to keep before confirming deletion.
Back up what you want to keep
Samsung describes backup options that include a Samsung account, a Google account, and Smart Switch. Which data is included depends on the service and settings you use. Review Samsung’s current instructions for backing up and restoring Samsung phone data before resetting.

Check an encrypted microSD card
If your A13 has an encrypted microSD card, decrypt it before the reset. Samsung warns that after a factory reset the phone may not be able to read a card that remains encrypted.
Have power, connectivity, and account details ready
Charge the phone sufficiently to complete the process without interruption. Samsung says network connectivity is required to log out of a Samsung account in its reset flow. Be ready to enter the Samsung account credentials requested on screen, and remember the Google account previously used on the phone: Factory Reset Protection can require account verification during setup, particularly when the phone is being transferred to someone else.

Choose the reset method that fits your situation

If you can unlock and navigate the A13, use the Settings method. Labels can vary with software version or locale, so follow the wording shown on your phone if it differs slightly.

- Tap General management.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Review the list of data and accounts affected by the reset.
- Tap Reset, then tap Delete all to confirm.
Samsung’s troubleshooting instructions say Samsung account credentials are entered to complete the reset. A PIN, password, pattern, or Wi-Fi connection may also be requested in the described flow. Read each confirmation screen carefully: the final deletion confirmation is not a restart and cannot be treated as a reversible step. What to know about button and remote resets
Button-based reset
A recovery-menu procedure is most relevant when the phone cannot be operated through Settings. Do not follow a generic key combination just because it is labelled for “Galaxy A13”: model variant, software version, and hardware details can affect instructions. First identify the model in the phone’s documentation, packaging, or account/device records, then use Samsung guidance specific to that model and region. Samsung support catalogs include, for example, SM-A137F/DSN and SM-A135F/DSN variants; these are not proof that every A13 uses the same procedure. SmartThings Find
A remote reset may help when the phone is not physically accessible, but only if the current service supports the device and the required account and settings conditions are satisfied. Check Samsung’s current service instructions for your region and account before choosing this route. If the phone is offline or remote controls were not enabled, a remote action may not be available.
After the reset: set up and restore the phone
When the phone restarts, complete the Android setup screens and connect to a network when prompted. If Factory Reset Protection is triggered, verify using the Google account previously associated with the device. Samsung account sign-in may also be requested. If the phone is being passed to another person, make sure the necessary account verification has been addressed before handing it over; otherwise the new user may be unable to finish setup.

Once setup is complete, restore available backups using the account or Smart Switch method used before the reset. Not every local file or app setting is necessarily included in a backup, so verify important data before treating the recovery as complete.

If the reset will not complete
- The Settings option is unavailable: Confirm the phone is unlocked and that the menu labels match your software version. If the phone cannot reach Settings, consult Samsung’s guidance for the exact model rather than guessing a button sequence.
- The phone requests a credential: Enter the relevant screen lock or account details. If you cannot verify the Samsung or Google account, use the account recovery options for that service before proceeding; a reset does not remove account-protection requirements.
- The phone is not online: Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data where possible. Samsung says connectivity is required to log out of a Samsung account in its reset flow, while remote services also depend on connectivity and prior setup.
- A microSD card is unreadable afterward: If it was encrypted before reset, the phone may not be able to read it. Avoid formatting it if the data matters; consult Samsung support for guidance specific to the card and device.
- The phone remains in a boot loop or cannot be reset: Use Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance and contact Samsung Support with the exact model number and region. The steps available can differ across SM-A135 and SM-A137 variants.
