To hard reset a Samsung Galaxy A11, use Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset > Reset, then follow the prompts. A factory reset erases the phone’s local data, so back up anything you want to keep and confirm you can sign in to the Google Account already on the phone before you begin.
What a hard reset does to the Galaxy A11
In this context, “hard reset” means a factory reset, not turning the phone off and on. A restart does not wipe your files; a factory reset permanently removes local account settings, system and app data and settings, downloaded apps, music, photos, videos, and other files. Samsung’s A11/A21 manual says data on an external SD card is not affected.
Reset only after checking what you need to save. Google-backed data may be restorable after setup, but apps and their data are uninstalled. Restoring from a backup is not a substitute for confirming that important photos, files, and other content are actually backed up.

- Transfer or back up the information you want to keep, and verify that the backup completed.
- Make sure you know the Google username and password previously used on the phone. Google Device Protection may require those credentials after a reset, particularly one performed with buttons.
- If you recently changed your Google password, Google advises waiting 24 hours before resetting.
- Google recommends at least 70% battery charge and network access so you can sign in after the reset. Google’s general Android guidance says the process can take up to an hour; that is not an A11-specific measured time.
Reset the A11 from Settings
Use this route when you can unlock the phone and open Settings. The A11/A21 manual gives these steps; menu wording or location may vary by operating-system version.

- Open Settings.
- Tap General management, then Reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Review the data listed for removal, tap Reset, and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm.
If Settings is unavailable
Recovery mode when you are locked out
Samsung’s general guidance for a button-based factory reset is to turn the phone off, connect it to a computer by USB, open the recovery menu using the device-specific buttons, choose Wipe data/factory reset, confirm, and then choose Reboot system now. The button combination varies by model. The available A11/A21 manual documents the Settings route, and Samsung’s general recovery instructions do not establish the exact button sequence for every Galaxy A11 variant. Verify the sequence for your exact model before attempting it rather than copying instructions for another Galaxy phone.
A button reset does not bypass Google Device Protection. If protection was activated by adding a Google Account and setting a screen lock, you may be asked for the previously used Google Account credentials during setup.

Erase remotely with SmartThings Find
Samsung says SmartThings Find can erase the phone remotely if it is online, signed in to a Samsung Account, and remote control and remote unlock are enabled. In SmartThings Find, select the device, choose Erase data, and confirm. This also deletes the phone’s local data.
Resetting before giving the phone to someone else
If you are transferring or selling the A11, remove your Google Account from the device before resetting. Samsung says this removes Factory Reset Protection for the next user; otherwise, the phone may request the previous Google Account during setup.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup, then Manage accounts.
- Select the Google Account and tap Remove account; confirm if prompted.
- Return to Settings and perform the factory reset using the steps above.
Which reset route should you use?
- Phone unlocks and Settings works: use the Settings reset. It is the A11/A21 manual’s documented local method.
- You cannot reach Settings: use Samsung’s recovery route only after confirming the correct button sequence for your A11 variant and having the required account credentials.
- You cannot access the phone but enabled the prerequisites: SmartThings Find may let you erase it remotely.
- You are troubleshooting: try less destructive troubleshooting first; a factory reset removes local data.
- You are handing it to another person: remove the Google Account first, then reset.
