Explain the difference by what viewers receive: Super Chat makes a paid message stand out in live chat, Super Stickers put a paid animated image in chat, and a channel membership is a recurring monthly payment for the perks your channel lists. All are optional, and the buttons appear only when YouTube makes the feature available for that channel and stream.
A clear explanation to say on stream
Try this: “If you want to highlight a message in chat, you can use Super Chat. Super Stickers are animated images that show up in chat. Membership is a monthly option with the perks listed on the channel. Everything here is optional, and the buttons appear only where YouTube makes them available.”
Use your actual membership perks in place of a generic description. Don’t imply that a purchase guarantees a reply, personal attention, or any benefit you have not listed.

| Option | What the viewer gets | How payment works | How to describe it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super Chat | A paid message highlighted in live chat. | One-time purchase. | A way to make a message stand out; it does not guarantee a response. |
| Super Sticker | A paid animated image surfaced in live chat. | One-time purchase. | A visual chat purchase, rather than a highlighted text message. |
| Channel membership | Members-only perks defined by the channel, such as badges or emoji. | Recurring monthly payment. | Explain the specific perks and that the payment recurs monthly. |
Super Chat and Super Stickers apply to eligible live streams and Premieres when enabled. Membership is different: it provides ongoing access to the channel’s stated perks rather than highlighting a single chat contribution.

How creators can check whether the features are available
Check YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn.
- Look for Supers. YouTube’s desktop instructions say this tab appears only when the channel is eligible.
- If it appears, follow the on-screen setup steps. Check the membership and Supers areas rather than assuming that access to one feature means access to every feature.
Understand the eligibility context
YouTube’s current monetization overview, accessed in 2026, lists a lower-threshold group for certain fan-funding features: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. These figures are not a guarantee that a particular channel can use every feature. YouTube also requires creators to be in the YouTube Partner Program, at least 18, and in a region where the relevant feature is available; feature-specific criteria and policies apply. Check YouTube’s current monetization overview and the feature pages before making an eligibility claim to viewers.
When Super Chat and Super Stickers won’t appear
YouTube lists several stream or video conditions that make Supers unavailable. They cannot be used on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. They are also unavailable when live chat or comments are disabled. Availability can depend on the creator’s location.

YouTube’s fundraiser FAQ also says they are unavailable on streams with Live Chat Donations, so keep a charitable donation option distinct from a creator-support purchase.

Set expectations and acknowledge support
You can thank viewers and invite conversation without promising special treatment. YouTube’s tips encourage gratitude: “Always remember the power of a simple ‘Thank you.’” A warm acknowledgment is different from a guaranteed reply. If a membership includes a response or another specific benefit, state it only if it is genuinely part of the channel’s listed perks.
